MARCO WINS IN Marianske Lazne (CZ)......AND STEVE HALL TAKES Heidenreichstein (A) WIN

Rounds 2 and 3 of the Mefo International Flattrack Cup took place at the weekend and for Marco Belli it was mixed fortunes. Marco won on Saturday in Marianski Lazne on the 1000 metre track riding a borrowed xr1000 Harley Davidson but his fortunes turned on Sunday when dicing mid pack in the Final at Heidenreichstein, when he was involved in a crash with Glyn Pocklington and broke his collar bone and four ribs ouch! Get well soon Marco.
All the Brits did well,Steve Hall was on podium in both meetings with 3rd (CZ) and a great win leading from the front from start to finish to take the honours at the Austrain meeting. Boastie got 4th in (CZ) and was 2nd to Steve in Austria, Glyn finished 7th and 5th after picking him self up after the big crash with Marco and starting at the back of the line out. Anthony Brown rode well and made the finals at both meetings, while Steve Hillary had problems with the big Harley on Saturday but sorted it out for Austria and also made the final. FLATTRACK FRIDAYS RESULTS

You could have been mistaken that you were in southern California with temperatures up in the 20's, bright sunshine and a perfectly prepared deep clay track to race on, some riders described the Norfolk Arena as Flattrack Heaven.

The racing was as good as the setting. Some of the hottest racing took place in the Kinrade National Pro Class, with 'Tiger' Tim Greig riding the ASR 450 Honda taking the points win with 3 wins out 4, the other win went to Pete 'Boastie' Boast giving him second spot overal and 3rd in the points was Glyn 'Cowboy' Pocklington.

Steve Coles dominated the Restricted plate Class with unbeaten record of 4 wins, 2nd place went to Shorttrack newcomer but former USA pro sport rider John Roeder riding a Honda CR500 two stroke and third place to Mike Ryan.

The Thunderbike Class overall win went to Paul Harrison with 3 heat wins riding the Woods Rotax, in 2nd place was Steve Coles who was just 2 points in front of 'Revin' Kevin Armstrong on the C&J Rotax who also had a heat win.

Quad Action was fast and exciting and it was Nick Wright who took the honours from Charlie Welbourn and Rob Curl battling into third spot.

Glyn 'Cowboy' Pocklington proved top man in Mini bikes class with 3 wins, 2nd spot went to grasstrack racer Mark Richardson with one win and Boastie 3rd.

MASTER OF THEM HALL

STEVE HALL became the first winner of the Masters of Flattrack and the 3rd different winner (in as many rounds) of the 2009 Pozzani Silkolene Shorttrack Championship. There was 24 hours of rain leading up to the meeting, but the fantastic 1/2 mile Amman Valley trotting track coped well and drained to produce some exciting racing as the meeting went on.
The Shorttrack Semi 1 was a battle up front with Pete Boast , Steve Hall and Tom Woolley riding his new works CCM machine. Hall got the result from Boast and Woolley. The second Semi saw early leader Richard Magic Mason crash out on lap 3 to hand the lead to Marco belli who went on to win ahead of Ben Wells and Rusty Hodgson.
The Grand Final was an exhausting 12 laps around the 1/2 mile wide open oval. It was Works CCM rider Belli who lead the race from the first bend with Steve Hall chasing him. On lap 3 Hall pulled a great move coming out turn 2 to to take the lead from Belli, while 3 bike lengths back there was 4 way dice for 3rd spot with two Suzuki mounted riders Ben Wells and Pete Boast and 2 Honda mounted riders of Ade Collins and Tim Greig. As the laps counted down Hall began to pull away from Belli, as he in turn pulled away from the 3rd place battle. Also coming up through the field was 15 year old Tom Woolley who moved into 7th place from 10th on the first lap.
With two laps to go it was lining up to a grandstand finish with Marco pulling back up to Steve Hall and in the battle for 3rd Wells, Boast, Colins and Greig were all trading places and begining to pull in the leaders. Steve Hall made no mistakes and received the Chequered Flag in first, with Belli 2nd and Boastie just nicking 3rd on the last corner from Ade Colins, Ben Wells and Tim Greig.
Marco extends his Championship lead and has 48 points, Boast 40, Collins 36, Greig 36 and Hall 33.

Head down for Junior Action with a win to Sam Woolley and Second spot for Tom Webourn.

Helmets4u rider of Day Rusty Hodgson

After two rounds of the 2009 Championship there are 5 riders who can loose their R from their number board and become a National Pro Number next year - #25 Derek Brindley, #5Jacopo Monti, #100 Andrew Moore, #98 Richard Mason and 2 times Junior Champion #93 Tom Woolley. #28r Steve Coles has just missed out on making the Grand Finals by one place in both rounds so far! I'm sure he will trying his best to change that at Amman and get his National Pro Plate.

MAGIC MASON
Rookie Richard Mason pulled off a shock result in Round 2 of the Pozzani Silkolene Shorttrack Grand Final, in his second Championship round winning by a full straightaway from reigning Champion Marco Belli. Richard who finished second to Pete Boast in his Semi was on the front row for the Grand Final in a Itailan sandwich with Marco Belli one side and Jacobo Monti on the other side. It was Belli who hole shotted and lead the first lap but starting second lap Mason made a move coming into turn one and took the lead from Belli. Pete Boast held third spot with Tim Greig on his tail and lap 4 saw first round winner Ade Collins slide off his BVS Honda while in 5th spot. By lap 6 Mason began to pull away from Belli who seemed to be struggling with the set up on the works CCM, Boastie was trying everything to get past Marco and Greig was on Boastie's back mudgard, a bit further down the field the battle for 5th spot was with Steve Hall putting pressure on Jacobo Monti and Ben Wells and Glyn Pocklington swapping places in the 4 way dice.
As the laps counted down Mason just kept pulling a larger lead, Marco was under massive pressure from Boast and Greig, Steve Hall moved into 5th spot and Monti got passed by Pocklington and Wells. By the time it come to the chequered flag Richard Mason took a very impressive win with the Champions of Shorttrack title, Marco hung on to second spot and Boast took the last spot on the podium.

HAIL ADE

..

Ade Collins won Round 1 of the Pozzani Silkolene ShorttrackUK Championship 2009. Ade was on top form riding the Buckingham Van Sales Honda, he won his opening heat race and his Semi Final to take pole for the Grand Final. Marco Belli riding the factory CCM won the other Semi Final from a hard charging Andrew Moore on the woods Rotax.
Ade hole shotted the 12 lap grand final from Belli, Moore and Pete Boast and by lap 2 he started to pull away from Marco who had Andrew Moore trying every thing to pass him. On lap 4 Moorey just missed Belli's back wheel by inches and ran off the grove dropping back to 8th place. Tim Greig on the ASR Honda took advantage and moved past Boast to take up third spot. On lap 6 Geoff Baldock went down mid pack with Justin Hargate on the Helmets4u Honda having to lay his bike down to miss him and the race was stopped.
The restart was in the form of a line out and once again Collins got the start from Belli ,Greig , Boast and Glyn Pocklington in 5th spot. Collins edged a lead out in the next 4 laps, Greig and Boast were pressuring Belli but by the Final lap Ade Collins took a great win with Marco holding to second and Tim Greig taking third spot.

The B final was declared to Paul Munnery after the race was stopped due to a crash involving Chris Wright , who we are pleased to say was ok after a ride in the ambulance. The final was a great battle up front between Alan and Charlie Welbourne, with Alan riding the two stroke and Charlie the big 520 four stroke. MARCO BELLI STARTS 2009 SEASON WITH HIS WINNING WAYS

Round 1 of the 2009 Mefo International Flattrack Cup took place on Sunday in Neuenkick,Germany and it was Marco Belli, the 2008 Champ who took the honours with a fine win in the Grand Final. Marco, who won 2 of his three heat races, grabbed pole for the final. Next to him was Steve Hall who was the only rider to beat Belli in his heat races, next to Steve was the flying Dutch man Wiemer Borger.
Marco made the hole shot with Hall and Borger dicing for second spot, with three laps gone Marco extended his lead, with Steve second, Pete Boast moved into third and Jan- Willem Janson into 4th. With8 laps gone Belli had 4 bikes length lead with Boast battling hard with Hall for second spot, Tim Greig had moved into 5th spot and was closing on Jan- Willem. With one lap to go Steve Hall had closed back up to Marco but it was too late to make a move and Marco wheelied across the the line to take the Win ! The British lads did well with Steve 2nd , Pete 3rd and Tim 5th. It just shows that the fastest Flattrackers in Europe race in the UK Championship.

He said has always wanted to ride Flat Track since seeing 'On Any Sunday' and after a couple of outings John soon got on the pace. He expessed that he would love to race at some of the ST rounds this year, when his other commitments will allow.
The first correct answer was from Andrew Harrison of South Willingham, Lincs, a Shorttrackuk T shirt is on the way.

150 X Trail Flattrackers will be running in the Mini Bike championship in 2009.
The very popular little Flat track training bikes will be part of the five round Shorttrack Mini bike Championship. Many of the regular Flattrack riders use the machines for training and are keen to get them out on the big tracks, plus we have had requests from other riders who have not ridden Shorttrack yet have purchased the bikes wishing to race. The bikes can purchased from Slipstream Motorcycles (Tel 01754 767879) in Flat track form for £585 ready to go.Entries are £40 per round this must make it one of the cheapest forms of racing going.

Flattrack Fridays

We are proud to announce that we will be running 4 meetings on Friday evenings at the Norfolk Arena and they will be known as Flattrack Fridays. We will be running 4 classes with every rider getting 3 heat races and a Grand Final for the top finishers. Practice will start at 7pm and racing at 7.30pm. The other good news for race fans is that it is free of charge!
The idea behind Flattrack Fridays is to give riders more track time on what has been described as the English Ascot Park ( a track in the US that produced some of the best Flattrackers in 70's & 80's ) and chance to try and get new fans to watch Shorttrack.
We will be running 4 classes for riders:-

National Pro Class – open to current and ex national number riders. Making a Grand Final at an STUK meeting during 2009 will also entitle you to ride in this class.
Restricted Shorttrack Class – for riders who have never held a national plate and do not make a grand final at a STUK meeting during 2009, riding Shorttrack or Thunderbike machines.
Thunderbike Class – open to riders with Thunderbike machines.
Open Quad Class – for quad bikes running to Shorttrack Quad rules.

Shorttrack to take on Lincoln Practice track

The Lincoln Practice Track for Shorttrack riders is set to open again thanks to an agreement reached with the land owners. In 2007 an oval was made on the mainly clay land and was used by some Shorttrack riders for practice towards the end of the season but in 2008 the council forced them to close the venue, as the adjacent moto X track didn't have the correct licence to move earth into jumps!
Recently the land owners contacted us to see if we were interested in starting the oval again, and I'm pleased to say we were able to come to an arrangement where we are able to run 14 times a year ,with the planning permision that is currently on the site. Even with only 14 days we feel it is a great opportunity to help the sport grow by giving riders the chance to practice.
Although some of the 400 metre oval is ok, there is substantial damage on the back straight and we will have to get some plant in to re- lay the track. We plan to add a mini oval in the centre and we also need to put a new entrance in at the top of the field, which the owners have agreed to do. If all goes well we plan to get the track open in 3 to 4 weeks time. We are asking riders to please support this venture as we will all benefit in the future by having the Lincoln track availble.
It will be £25 for a full days riding and we hope to run some evening sessions as well at £15.
Dates of practice sessions will be posted on the Fixtures page soon.

With rounds in 5 different European countries, we are very excited about the racing season ahead!
Fascinated by the pure, big wheel racers, a new generation of glamorous street trackers is unfolding and growing fast in the cities, workshops and on internet blogs! This leads to an increasing awareness of flat track racing and contributes to the steady growth of the sport in Europe as well.
After the success of the past two seasons we can now count on the full support of the German motor sport federation. With the DMSB publishing the flat track regulations, every club in Europe can organize flat track races to the same rules!
The starting grids are looking stronger than ever before. The established riders have become noticeably faster, and new riders are joining in from Germany, Italy, England, Switzerland and the Dutch grass racing scene. And with races now also in Austria, Belgium, France and the Czech Republic, we can expect some enthusiasm there too!
The racing season kicks off on the 12th of April on the red dirt of Neuenknick, Germany. A month later we race in the Czech republic during the long track Grand Prix! The race in Marianske Lazne will be hosted on the beautiful 1000m track in the middle of town on Saturday 20 June. This is where we will see all the twins in action! Pete Boast, Edy Put & Glyn Pocklington on their Suzukis. Harley-Davidson twins with Mario Müggler, Steve Hillary, Thomas Weigl & Jan-Willem Jansen. Tim Greig on the Aprilia and maybe even Josef Kluger on his BMW! We can expect a big crowd here! On Sunday 21 June we make the Austrian premiere on the short track of Heidenreichstein. This is the home track of the Gatzenmeier brothers. The new south German duo have prepared some exceptionally beautifully KTMs! 5 July we return to the 700m track in Parchim in the north of Germany. And another new comer will be the race in Heusden, Belgium on September 6th. This fantastic short track is located right in the motocross champions breeding country. Then we can look forward to the final championship race which will be hosted in Tayac, France on 4 October. With the many friends and fans in France it will be great to race there! The prize purse for the 2009 International Mefo Sport Flattrack Cup is 5000 Euros!! Who will take the biggest slice? Will Marco Belli hold on to his #1 plate? We can expect fierce competition from the Dutch grass track aces and short track UK racers.

The nations cup of flat track will be hosted on the Austrian short track in Heidenreichstein on 23 August!

Thanks to the continuous support of Mefo Sport, Custom Chrome, Dickies Europe, SICD, Acerbis, Fat-Cat & dirtbike magazine, we look forward to another great season of spectacular sliding, close racing and lots of fun!

Boast takes first victory of 2009

Wrekin Grasstrack Club put a programmed 58 race meeting on at a Sunny Stoke Speedway Stadium, which saw the first action of the year for Shorttrack riders. The 12 rider field produced 5 fantastic heats of racing, which could only be described as some of the closet races of the day, the top 8 riders swopping places in every race.
Race 1 was won by Tim Greig by half bike from Victor Bull after Geoff Baldock lead the race for 5 laps of the 6
Race 2 went to Victor Bull riding his new KTM for the first time with Tim second and Geoff Bull Third
Race 3 saw young Tom Woolley take his adult class victory on a F.T.E CCM, from Glyn Pocklington and Pete Boast
Race 4 Boastie won with a great second spot for Geoff Bull and also great ride for 3rd place from Richard May
Race 5 came down to the last corner with Tom Woolley leading but he just made a bobble and ran wide on the exit of the corner, handing victory to Boast with Pocklington third.

Boastie just took the victory on points from Victor Bull, with Tim Greig getting the last spot on the Podium.
It was a great advert for Shorttrack racing and with the Sun Shining at Stoke! it looks like it could be great 2009 season.

MARCO READY TO DEFEND HIS TITLE

Three times ShorttrackUK Champion Marco Belli has confirmed he is looking forward to defending his Number 1 plate in the 2009 season. Marco has just had surgery to his left shoulder which he injured at Scunthorpe at the last round of 2008. Speaking from his home in Verese, Italy , he said 'The surgery has gone well and my shoulder is better every day. I now can't wait to get back on the bike again because I haven't ridden since October last year.' Marco went on to say that he will be looking forward to being part of a three man team at CCM, ' They built me a fantastic bike last year and I will be riding same machine again so I'm very confident of having another good season.'
Marco will be travelling all way from Italy with fellow countryman Luca Talamona who is riding in the Thunder Bike Championship. The fact that Luca will be competing in the whole series this year and sharing travel costs means that Marco can still afford to come over to race, so fans of the flamboyant Italian won't be dissappointed plus they will have the added bonus of watching Luca. Can't be bad!

Shorttrack would like to thank Pete Dalton, Graham Temple and Richard Barrett from Silkolene for making this possible in these difficult times and we look forward to working with them while enjoying their support for our championship.

Chris Carr on Honda for 2009

Low

1st Round of the season at Redcar is rained off!

Highs

Jason Crump tests Shorttrack bike.

Steven Hall wins the Champions of Shortrack at the BMF.

The half-mile track at Amman Valley produces some awesome racing under floodlights.

The CCM Flat Track Experience school helps to bring new riders to shorttrack.

England win the Flat Track of Nations for the second time in Muldorf, Germany.

Low

Buxton and the re-run of Redcar rounds are hit by heavy rain but the riders stick it out to the end.

Low

Junior Class suffers through lack of entries.

Highs

More riders choose to build Thunderbikes, which saw entries for the Thunderbike Class increase at nearly every round.

Chris Carr came to ride in the final round of the year at Scunthorpe Raceway. This was the most amazing day in the history of the sport in this country.

The Chris Carr School provided a full day of tuition with Chris, which could only be described as the best Master Class of riding Flat Track that you will ever get.

Low

Mark Selby badly breaks his arm in the final round at Scunthorpe, just before his planned year out to spend more time with his new family ( balanced by a personal high for them when baby Jacob was born).

Highs

CHRISTMAS CRACKER RESULTS 27/12/08
..
1st Peter Boast...............................................2nd Tim Greig.......................................................3rd Steve Plater............................

Market Rasen’s Peter Boast claimed his third win in four years at the annual Christmas Cracker Short Track meeting which took place at the Eddie Wright Raceway in Scunthorpe on Saturday afternoon. The over night frost caused big problems with the track and many riders who only had Dirttrack tyres found it tough going, only the impressive Tom Woolley riding the works CCM and Adie Collins seemed to cope with the Dirttrack set up, as they both made the Grand Final.
There was still plenty of challengers for Boast’s crown with former speedway rider Tony Primmer, Horncastle’s Karl Willerton and road racer Steve Plater looking particularly impressive early on. Unfortunately Primmer, who had looked the most likely to defeat Boast crashed out on the second turn of the final and it was left to Tealby’s Tim Greig and Woodhall Spa’s Plater to chase Boast and fill the podium positions.

The Welbourns Quad racing saw Alan Hooker from Caistor claim victory ahead of Boston’s Chris Wright and Chesterfield’s Mandy Renshaw. Hooker was beaten by Wright in one race but Hooker won the rest of the heats to claim the title.
However, the rider most happy with their performance on the day was Mandy Renshaw who made her first podium of the year. In her second heat Mark Hooker was on her tail all the way but she managed to hold him off. When she had to pull out of her third heat due to tear-off problems it was all down to the double point final, where Mark passed Mandy, missed a gear and she retook him to tie on points but take third on count back. CHAMPIONSHIP DATES FOR 2009 SET

After much negotiation and rearranging, STUK have now managed to secure some fantastic venues for the 2009 season.

The good news is that we will be returning to the ever popular half-mile track at Amman Valley, which always produces exciting racing and so makes the pretty but long journey worthwhile.

We are very happy to have secured a more southern venue (after years of trying) in Rye House Stadium, Herts. The stadium is great and the location should please our more southern based riders and fans.

We will of course be returning to the Norfolk Arena, as the well prepared track and facilities make this a 'no-brainer'. We have also been invitied back to the BMF, as our sport is still proving popular with the showgoers. With meetings at Buxton and Scunthorpe also being thrown into the mix there should be something for everyone this year and we can't wait to get started!

The Shorttrack Class will stay the same format as 2008 but there will be a dash for cash race added to the racing schedule. We can now confirm that the Shorttrack Class riders will be only allowed to run 19" DTR Maxxis Tyres or 17" wet Maxxis race, you will be allowed to cut the tyre ( more info on www.aaa-racing.com) and there are two compounds available.

No Rule changes to the Thunderbikes,Junior and Quads,

As every meeting will be run on Sundays, with the exception of the BMF at Peterborough which are two day meetings, it means we can set the start times all the same, practice at 11.00am and racing at 1pm for all classes.

Entry Fee has gone up £5 per meeting due to the ever increasing costs of running the meetings. All Adult entries are now £45 for one class and £15 for extra an class, any late entry will cost £10 more, Junior riders will cost £35, Registration still £65.

For full details of the schedule please check out the fixtures page.

The fastest 8 riders will go into the Dash For Cash race, which will be run in the main event and run over 6 laps. All the entry fee will be split between 1st, 2nd and 3rd spot and the highst placed R plate rider,so the more riders who enter, the more cash up for grabs!

.
IS THERE AN INDOOR DIRT ARENA IN THE UK ?????????

Calling all riders & Shorttrack fans - our mission is to find an indoor venue in the UK where we can run shorttrack events. All over the States there are indoor meetings taking place during the winter months at fair grounds and bull rings, while we in the UK can only polish our bikes in the shed. Wouldn't it be great to be travelling to a meeting knowing that it was going to be on, no matter what the British weather tried to throw at us. If any one knows of a suitable venue please contact us at the Shorttrack office.

2/11/08
Brits in USA West Coast Nationals.
Peter Boast and Glyn Pocklington made the long trip to southern California to race at Pomona, L.A., for the biggest meeting on the west coast of the USA. Over 180 riders competed in three classes on the 5/8 mile track and Pete and Glyn were riding Suzuki RMZ 450's in the Top Gun Class. With only 5 laps of practice given, Pete and Glyn had to go straight into their heat races, with very little experience of the fast and dangerous track. Pete managed to get 7th from the back row which put him into the Semi, Glyn managed a hard fought 12th but that put him out of the meeting (pretty tough!).
Boastie had another back row start and pulled up to 7th spot in the 6 lap semi but only the top 3 made the Final. Pete said 'It wasn't a bad showing, we just need more time racing with these guys. We are getting a lot closer and we can look forward to trying again next year.' Pete and Glyn would like to thank Dave Burk's Motorsport, Travis, Mick, Boone and Ronnie for all their help.

Pete and Glyn in good company on the riders parade, Boastie chats to suzuki rider J R Schnabel, next to Glyn is the fastest Aussie Flat tracker Mick Kirkness, 49y is Chad Cose, with 14 on his leathers is Jake Johnson and of course the 4 of Chris Carr.

Chris Carr Conquers England ...Marco 2008 Champion
.........................

Round 7 of the Silkolene ShorttrackUK Championship was won by Chris Carr at Scuntorpe Raceway ,second was Peter Boast on a Suzuki and CCM Factory rider Marco Belli finished third, which gave Marco the Silkolene ShorttrackUK Championship for the third time.
Chris Carr's presence made the meeting the pinnacle of ShorttrackUK so far, the fans and riders were all in awe of his skills on the track and also his friendly manner off the track, which earned him a standing ovasion when returned to the pits after every race!

The battle for the ShorttrackUK title had drama even before the start of the meeting, as Marco Belli who had a crash on Saturday was rushed to hospital to have a dislocated shoulder put back into place. It looked doubtful that he would ride, but the tough Italian tenderly got his leathers on and managed to finish second to Chris Carr in his first heat race.

There were some tough heat races with one or two incidents but luckily no major injuries. Crunch time came in the semis. The first Semi saw Carr hole shot, with Ben Wells second, Pete Boast third and Rusty Hodgson fourth. Carr pulled away each lap but the battle was with Boast and Wells for second spot. Boast managed to make a move on lap 6 to and held on until the flag, Wells was third, Glyn Pocklington 4th and the final transfer place went to 'Captain Highside' John Lee.
In the second semi the action up front was between Aidan Collins and Marco Belli , Collins made small mistake and slipped off the groove and Belli made his move to 1st spot showing that his injury wasn't slowing him down. Tim Greig also moved past Collins to take 2nd spot, Collins 3rd, 16 year old Ben Baker 4th and Steve Hall who came from a penalty back row start just got through to the final. The Last Chance race saw a great win for Richard May and the second spot and last transfer spot went to Rusty Hodgson who just got the better of Justin Hargate.

The 12 rider, 12 lap Silkolene ShorttrackUK Grand Final could only have one winner and yes it was 7 times USA Flattrack Champion Chris Carr. He got the hole shot from Boastie and was never challenged, he just kept extending his lead but behind him the battle was on with Boastie, Belli and Greig for 2nd 3rd and 4th spot. Nobody gave an inch, Belli knew that if he made a mistake he could loose the championship to Boast and Greig was trying his hardest to force a way past. As the laps wound down Carr was in among the back markers and Boast, Belli and Greig were still in a freight train, about to catch them as the race ended. Carr took his first Grand Final win on English soil, Boast 2nd, Belli 3rd and Greig was 4th, giving Marco Belli the 2008 Silkolene ShorttrackUK Championship.

The Sunnydeck's Thunderbike Final was a real gripper, with Chris Carr riding Colin Batchford's Woods Rotax on pole next to Steven Coles (who had beaten Carr in a heat race when Carr had cut out problems) with Boastie on his 650 Suzuki and John Lee on his big v twin Honda rounding out the front row. Boastie made the start with Lee second and Carr third. Passing the line on the first lap Boast got a tank slapper and just manged to get it all together again by turn one. Boast and Lee held Carr off for the next lap, then on lap three Carr made his move past Lee. Boast held the lead for just one more lap before Carr got by on inside of him. The top three held their positions until the chequered flag, with Steve Coles keeping ahead of Richard May for fourth.

F.T. Experience CCM Junior Champioship

Going into the last round of the Junior Championship Ben Baker had a slim three point lead over Tom Woolley who broke his collar bone only two weeks ago at Kings Lynn. Tom had to win all his races to take the title and although Ben did his best to try to stop him Tom did win and took his second Junior title. Along with the honour of winning, he will also get to test Marco Belli's Winning works CCM!

4/10/08
Once again the good old British weather hit the ShorttrackUK Championship and once again riders did their best to try and race in driving freezing cold rain but unlike Buxton & Redcar where only the finals were hit by the weather, this time it started raining hard during the shorttrack heat races (luckily the quads, juniors and thunderbike races were complete) and the referee Nick Richardson had to abandon the meeting on grounds of safety.
All the Shorttrack heat races were run on the TT track which produced some fantastic racing even with rain making conditions very tricky, but we also some great racing on the oval, from the Quads, Thunderbikes and the Juniors.
The Sunnydecks Thunderbike Final saw the closest final of the season with great win for Captain Highside Jon Lee on the 710 Honda, who had a great Battle with Championship leader Pete Boast and Paul Harrison in 3rd.
The F.T. Experience Junior Shorttrack Championship win went to Ben Baker, from Adam Thomas and 3rd spot to Tom Welbourne. Championship leader Tom Woolley crashed in practice and broke his collar bone and now has a battle to be fit for the last round in two weeks to hold on to the number 1 plate.
The Welbourns Quad Championship Final was run in treacherous conditions with the rain lashing down and making the track like an ice skating rink. It was Mark Hooker who holeshoted and left the rest of field, Chris Wright tried his best to hold on but it was a battle just to see where he was going with all the spray off the back wheels of Hooker, and Championship leader Alan Hooker managed to keep his lead with 3rd spot.

A big thankyou to all staff and marshals for all your help and standing out in the horrendous conditions.

FANS FLOCK IN THEIR THOUSANDS TO WATCH THE INDY MILE

Probably the most widely talked about Flattrack meeting for a number of years, the Indy Mile took place on Saturday night, 13th September. Unlike the MOTO GP the rain kept away for the Mile race and the fans flocked in to fill the 17k start and finnish grand stand and more fans had to be squeezed into the infield.
After three red flags interrupted the twenty five lap race it was Chris Carr Racing / Drag Specialties' Chris Carr who took control of the last restart, a five lap dash to the finish, and won his second National of the year. It just happens that Carr also won the last race there in 1999. "It was nice to have two pits stops there at the end to give this old man a chance to catch his breath. I knew for the last five laps I could just go flat out," said Carr. "Kenny (Tolbert) made some changes to the bike during that last stop. I didn't even have to ask, he just knew what needed to be done to the bike."
The last red flag came on lap 21, but as per AMA rules a National main has to finish with at least five laps, making this race 26 laps long. At the flash of green Carr shot off the line with Kenny Coolbeth and his Factory backed Harley-Davidson giving chase. The biggest loser on the restart was Moroney's Harley-Davidson / Screamin' Eagle's Bryan Smith. Smith had been fighting for the lead, but after the restart he was mired in seventh place.
Carr and Coolbeth revisited their Springfield wars as both riders diced back and forth well ahead of third place Blue Springs Screamin' Eagle's Jared Mees and Bartels' Harley-Davidson / Rogers Lake Racing's Shaun Russell.
On the last lap Coolbeth took the lead going into turn three, but Carr drafted back down the front straight for the win. Smith was on a tear and passed both Russell and Mees on the last lap to take third.

BOTH GARY INMAN AND PETE BOAST WERE THRILLED TO MEET THEIR HERO'S, TO DISCUSS THE OLD DAYS AND THE SHORTTRACK SCENE IN EUROPE. DICK IS PICTURED WITH ALASTAIR MCQUAID'S BSA.

..................COLLINS PEAKS IN THE PEAKS......

The rain came down for the Grand final again, for Round 4 Silkolene Shorttrackuk Championship at Buxton Speedway but it didn't stop young Aidan Collins taking his first Grand Final win of the championship.Tim Greig made the hole shot with Pete Boast hard after him, Aidan then made great move on the inside of Greig and Boast to take the lead, Marco Belli joined them up front and all four battled hard for next few laps but it was Collins who pulled away and took the win from Marco Belli, Greig (who got his first podium of the year), Boastie with Steve Hall making his way up to 5th spot ahead of Victor Bull. There was also a great ride from 16 year old Ben Baker who put his 250 Kawasaki into the Grand Final and finished a fine 9th place just ahead of Les Collins (father of Aidan and ex World no 2) riding his first Shorttrack meeting.

Belli's Rain Dance

As the Rain fell on Teeside it was the Italian Marco Belli who took a fantastic win in an incident packed Grand Final of Round Three of the Silkolene Shorttrack Series. The rain held off for all the heat races which produced some cracking racing, with Star Guest rider Guy Martin only just missing out on semi final place with a crash on the last corner of the last chance race for the final transfer spot. Then the rain begain to fall for the Semi's and it seemed to favour some of the x speedway riders with Aidan Colins taking the win in the first semi and Adam Allott taking the second semi. The rain came down even hard for the Grand final but the riders just wanted to race. This time it was number 1 Marco who was able to work out the conditions and took the lead on lap one with Collins on the high line trying his best to pass Marco. Victor Bull moved up to 3rd but crashed on lap 5, then Collins went down on lap 7 in the tricky conditions. Steve Hall moved into second spot with a hard charging Ben Wells now in third spot. Marco just kept a pulling away on his works CCM and took his second Grand Final Victory of 2008.

Team England Win the Flat track of Nations

The spectators and fans were treated with the hardest racing ever seen on the Euro-pean continent! 28 riders from 7 nations went wide open after the valuable points un-der the hot Bavarian sun! Several engines went up in smoke as the 1000m cushion track lived up to it's engine killing reputation! With fantastic team spirit amongst the riders, the remaining bikes were shared within the teams and beyond. The title de-fenders from Great Britain were challenged hard from all corners. Jens Hinrichs on his GST KTM and Tommy Kunert on his Huber Aprilia from Germany, Oege de Jong on his KTM & Mick Jansen on his Dutch-Brothers KTM from the Netherlands, Marco Belli on the Ariete Kawasaki from Italy, Dani Müller on the Supertrapp Harley-Davidson from Switzerland. The tension rose with every race, and so did the heat! The only shade to be found was in the old paddock where live band WOMAN was getting the party started! Surprise of the day came out of the French corner! Philippe Stella, James Brun & Damien Bomais, all supported by Mefo, kept their heads down and the throt-tles open to grab point after point. And this while the friendly trio was racing on Maxxis DTR tires for the first time! With so many races and so many riders, the ten-sion was rising, who will be in the final? Then came the announcement from the refe-ree: Great Brittain, France, Italy & the Netherlands! 12 long laps under the grueling Bavarian sun, top speeds well over 160km/h, will the engines last? Marco First, Steve Hall and Oege de Jong close behind. Oege de Jong up in second and closing in on Marco Belli. Then Oege de Jong went wide and Steve Hall passed inside. Oege de Jong closing in again, but it was too late... Marco Belli crossed the line first, Steve hall sec-ond, Oege de jong third, Philippe Stella fourth, Pete Boast fifth, James Brun, Tim Greig, Damien Bomais, Mick Jansen, Dario Magnoni & Luca Talamona.

Great Britain won again! After their success in the short track of nations in 2007, they won the flat track of nations in 2008! France second and Italy third!

MARCO BELLI WINS IN THE VALLEY

The Amman Valley 1/2 mile event was run in red hot conditions both on and off the track, the track action keeping the spectators sweating as they watched the riders pitching their bikes sideways at 100mph. The Silkolene ShorttrackUK Championship saw 36 riders battle it out to 12 rider Grand Final. Pete Boast and Marco Belli had their pick of the front row due to their semi final wins and along side them were two x speedway riders Adie Collins and Adam Allott.
It was Boast who made the hole shot but Belli passed him down the back straight. Boastie hung on to the back of Belli for three laps before he begain to pull away fromhim. Steve Hall had come through to third spot by passing Glynn Pocklington and just a bit further down the field Adie Collins, Tim Greig and Mick Janson were battling wheel to wheel for 5th 6th 7th. Belli pulled away to gain a commanding lead as Boast in turn pulled away from Hall. As the laps wound down it was Belli who brought the Works CCM Machine home to it's first UK victory in 2008, Boast was safe in second followed by Hall, Pocklinton and a last lap pass by Collins over Tim Greig rounded top 6 placings. This now means that Belli and Boast share the lead in the Championship.

The Thunderbike class had it's largest entry of the season, with 20 riders using the opportunity of riding the 1/2 mile track to really get their higher capacity bikes opened up and to great effect. The Final saw Jan- Willam Jansen on his Sundance XR1200 Harley Davidson push Boast on the Suzuki Twin for top spot , with Boast just seeming to have the upper hand on Jan to take the win. Jon "Captain highside " Lee brought the 700 Honda twin home into third spot.
In the Junior races it was no suprise that Tom Woolley won all his races in fine style but what wasn't expected was the fantastic racing between Joe Moore and Ben Baker with Joe coming out on top.
The Welbourn's of Wisbech sponsored Quad Championship had a slightly depleted field but the riders who did make the effort to get to this unique racing track had a ball and produced some great race racing. In the end it was guest rider Jim Penfold who proved to be number 1 on the 1/2 mile track on 4 wheels.

Double Boast

The racing was hot on a cold and windy evening at the Norfolk Arena and the honours in Round 1 of 2008 ShorttrackUK Championship went to Peter Boast on a 450 Team Suzuki machine, who lead the Grand Final from start to finish but 2007 Number 1 plate holder Marco Belli was pushing hard to take 2nd spot on the factory CCM, with Steven Hall taking last spot on the podium on his 525 KTM. Rookie ride of the night went to former speedway star Aidan Collins with a fine 4th spot.
Boastie also brought his big 650 twin home 1st in the Thunderbike Race with Helmets4u rider of the night Kev Armstrong in 2nd spot and Paul Harrison 3rd.
The Quad Final was an all brothers affair with the win going to last year's champ Alan Hooker and his brother Mark in second spot.

BIKES FROM DAYTONA

Jason Crump practices on a Shorttracker.
17/2/08
2006 World Speedway Champion Jason Crump test rode a CRF DTX at Scunthorpe Speedway Stadium today. He was there to test his speedway bikes but took the opportunity to take up the offer from Pete Boast to take his CRF Flattrack bike out. Pete said he looked like he was really enjoying himself and was on the pace in a matter of laps. After the test ride he said he loved it and now would be looking at converting his own CRF honda MX bike into a flattracker and if he has time in his busy speedway schedule he might take a round in.
