THE MOST FAMOUS FLATTRACKER IN USA HISTORY HAS SHOWN HIS SUPPORT BY AGREEING TO RACE IN THE FINAL ROUND OF SILKOLENE SHORTTRACKUK CHAMPIONSHIP. THIS IS A MASSIVE COUP FOR FLATTRACK RACING IN ENGLAND.

At 41 he is still at the top of his game, only two weeks ago he won the Springfield Mile race in front of 25'000 Harley Fans and he is currently lying 4th in the Grand National Championship. In 2006 he broke the motorcycle world land speed record at Bonneville Salt Flats at an amazing 350.88 mph! which still stands today.

RAIN STOPS PLAY!
4/10/08
Once again the good old British weather hit the ShorttrackUK Championship and once again riders did their best to try and race in driving freezing cold rain but unlike Buxton & Redcar where only the finals were hit by the weather, this time it started raining hard during the shorttrack heat races (luckily the quads, juniors and thunderbike races were complete) and the referee Nick Richardson had to abandon the meeting on grounds of safety.
All the Shorttrack heat races were run on the TT track which produced some fantastic racing even with rain making conditions very tricky, but we also some great racing on the oval, from the Quads, Thunderbikes and the Juniors.
The Sunnydecks Thunderbike Final saw the closest final of the season with great win for Captain Highside Jon Lee on the 710 Honda, who had a great Battle with Championship leader Pete Boast and Paul Harrison in 3rd.
The F.T. Experience Junior Shorttrack Championship win went to Ben Baker, from Adam Thomas and 3rd spot to Tom Welbourne. Championship leader Tom Woolley crashed in practice and broke his collar bone and now has a battle to be fit for the last round in two weeks to hold on to the number 1 plate.
The Welbourns Quad Championship Final was run in treacherous conditions with the rain lashing down and making the track like an ice skating rink. It was Mark Hooker who holeshoted and left the rest of field, Chris Wright tried his best to hold on but it was a battle just to see where he was going with all the spray off the back wheels of Hooker, and Championship leader Alan Hooker managed to keep his lead with 3rd spot.
A big thankyou to all staff and marshals for all your help and standing out in the horrendous conditions.

2006 AUSTRALIAN U16'S DIRT TRACK CHAMPION TO RACE AT SHORTTRACK TT
Darcy Ward who has hit the British speedway world by storm over the last two months and has been breaking track records and scoring top points where ever he's gone, will be the guest rider at this weekend's ShorttrackUK meeting. He has already signed a contract with King's Lynn for 2009 Season! Darcy's back ground is Dirt Tracking back home in Aussie, he was U16's Champion in 2006 and he will get his chance to ride with UK's star Shorttrack riders at the Norfolk Arena on the unique TT track, which last year proved to be a killer over the big jump.
Now free from speedway commitments for the day, Boston team mate and King's Lynn rider Simon Lambert will be taking the other guest spot. Lambert made his first appearance for ShorttrackUK at the Christmas Cracker meeting and impressed on his first time ever on a bike with gears. I'm sure that this time he'll be even better, especially with a little team rivalry from Darcy!
Marco Belli has a 9 point lead over Peter Boast, who has just a 13 point lead over Aiden Collins in 3rd spot, meaning any slip by the top three could make a major change to the out come of the 2008 Silkolene Championship. With just two rounds remaining , this weekend will be crucial to the top three.
The support classes of Sunnydecks Thunderbikes Class, Welbourns Quad Championship and FT Experience Junior Shorttrack Championship will be battling it out on the superquick oval at the Norfolk Arena on Saturday 4th October.
It all kicks of with Support Classes Heat races(quads, thunderbikes and juniors) at 5pm and Main Programme at 7pm
Adults £10,Cons £8,Children (12 to 15) £3, kids Free

23/9/08 British riders in Europe
Three of the top runners in the ShorttrackUK Championship were absent at Peterborough but with good excuses - Tim Greig, Steve Hall and Victor Bull were all on European duty. Tim rode in the Mefo Flattrack Championship at Lubbenau in Germany on the Saturday and finished 4th in the Final which was won by Dutch rider Bert Bijkstra. This wasn't quite enough to take the Championship from Marco Belli, who was at the BMF concentrating on the UK Championship.
On Sunday all three Brits rode at the FIM European Shorttrack Championship in Holland, on a 600 metre track at Rodern. Steve Hall was the top Brit in the Final with 9th place, follwed by Tim Greig in 10th and Victor Bull in 14th spot. Well done to the lads.

HOT ACTION AT THE BMF ACU NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
The sun shone on the first ever ACU National Shorttrack Championship and Round 5 of the Silkolene Shorttrack Championship at the weekend (20th & 21st Sept.).
The Silkolene Shorttrack Class of 34 riders battled it out over the two days to come down to a 12 rider 12 lap Grand Final on Sunday afternoon. On the front row was Aidan Collins on pole, works CCM rider Marco Belli, Suzuki rider Pete Boast and Ben Wells on the Revs 450 Suzuki.

Boast kept poking is front wheel alongside Collins and on lap 8 Aidan made a bobble coming out of turn 4 and Boast slipped into first place with Belli following through at the same time, relogating Collins to third. Over the next 4 laps Belli tried hard to move past Boast but Boastie held on and took the chequered flag and to become the first Shorttrack ACU British National Champion.

FANS FLOCK IN THEIR THOUSANDS TO WATCH THE INDY MILE

Probably the most widely talked about Flattrack meeting for a number of years, the Indy Mile took place on Saturday night, 13th September. Unlike the MOTO GP the rain kept away for the Mile race and the fans flocked in to fill the 17k start and finnish grand stand and more fans had to be squeezed into the infield.
After three red flags interrupted the twenty five lap race it was Chris Carr Racing / Drag Specialties' Chris Carr who took control of the last restart, a five lap dash to the finish, and won his second National of the year. It just happens that Carr also won the last race there in 1999. "It was nice to have two pits stops there at the end to give this old man a chance to catch his breath. I knew for the last five laps I could just go flat out," said Carr. "Kenny (Tolbert) made some changes to the bike during that last stop. I didn't even have to ask, he just knew what needed to be done to the bike."
The last red flag came on lap 21, but as per AMA rules a National main has to finish with at least five laps, making this race 26 laps long. At the flash of green Carr shot off the line with Kenny Coolbeth and his Factory backed Harley-Davidson giving chase. The biggest loser on the restart was Moroney's Harley-Davidson / Screamin' Eagle's Bryan Smith. Smith had been fighting for the lead, but after the restart he was mired in seventh place.
Carr and Coolbeth revisited their Springfield wars as both riders diced back and forth well ahead of third place Blue Springs Screamin' Eagle's Jared Mees and Bartels' Harley-Davidson / Rogers Lake Racing's Shaun Russell.
On the last lap Coolbeth took the lead going into turn three, but Carr drafted back down the front straight for the win. Smith was on a tear and passed both Russell and Mees on the last lap to take third.

Springfield ST and Wainfleet ST
.......
The last weekend in August saw two major shorttrack meetings take place, one was in Springfield, IL, USA , the last round of the AMA Singles Championship and the other at the 'Mega Bowl', Wainfleet, Lincs, England, the 150 cc cup. At Springfield 93 riders went into qualifying with Chris Carr setting pole, at the Mega Bowl 9 riders went into qualifying with Pete Boast setting pole.
The grand finals in both events were over 25 laps, Springfield was in front of thousands of fans,Wainfleet just had the pet goat looking on wondering what we were doing in his field. Henry Wiles took the win for Kawasaki at Springfield and X works CCM rider Andrew Moore took the Mega Bowl win.
...........
Really we all wished we were at Springfield but when you can't make it half way around the world you have to make do in your own back yard, so why not get together with your mates and get an oval in your field! The 150 machines are a great way to train and can be bought in flattrack form from Slipstream Motorcycles (01754 767879) for just £575.

The rain came down for the Grand final again, for Round 4 Silkolene Shorttrackuk Championship at Buxton Speedway but it didn't stop young Aidan Collins taking his first Grand Final win of the championship.Tim Greig made the hole shot with Pete Boast hard after him, Aidan then made great move on the inside of Greig and Boast to take the lead, Marco Belli joined them up front and all four battled hard for next few laps but it was Collins who pulled away and took the win from Marco Belli, Greig (who got his first podium of the year), Boastie with Steve Hall making his way up to 5th spot ahead of Victor Bull. There was also a great ride from 16 year old Ben Baker who put his 250 Kawasaki into the Grand Final and finished a fine 9th place just ahead of Les Collins (father of Aidan and ex World no 2) riding his first Shorttrack meeting.

Les Collins to ride at Buxton.
The former England International speedway rider Les Collins has agreed to ride in Round 4 of the Shorttrack UK Championship at Buxton on 23rd of August. Les who finished 2nd in one of the most famous world finals in Los Angeles, only Bruce Penhall stopped Les from being World Champion that night, will be riding the Silkolene Crf 450 guest bike at the 240 metre track at Buxton.
Les rode for many clubs in Speedway, including the famous Belle Vue Aces, where he rode along side his brothers Peter, Neil and Phil and with Buxton only just the other side of the peaks we are hoping that some Belle Vue fans will turn out to watch Les in action again. If Les gets to grips with shorttrack as quick as his son, who is flying on the Buckingham Van Sales CRF Honda and lying 4th in championship, then hopefuly we will see him become a regular Shorttrack rider!

Jan-Willem Jansen takes his maiden victory in Marianske Lazne 14/7/08
The first ever flat track race held in the Czech Republic was hosted at the gorgeous banked thousand meter track situated in the middle of Marianske Lazne. This beautiful sand oval, with its rich heritage in long track racing world championships, was in perfect condition despite heavy rainfall in the previous days.
A strong rider field, including the entire winning flat track of nations team from Great Britain who made the long journey to the Czech Republic, as well as riders from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the Netherlands and even more riders from the UK, had a hard day of very close racing. Local enduro hero Karel Provazjik gave the Bavarian regulars Mathias Hahn and Franz Strohammer a hard time on his Maxxis mounted Husqvarna, but unfortunately his engine gave up on the wide open long straights and he had to forfeit the final.
Cowboy of the day was Tom van Nes on his Supertrapp Harley-Davidson, who had several breathtaking rodeos going over the bumps in turn 4, at times hanging on flying half a meter above his seat! Tough battles all day long between Dutchman Mick Jansen on his Dutch-Brothers KTM, Glyn Pocklington on his helmets4u Honda and Pete Boast on his works Suzuki, changing positions almost every round throughout the qualifying heats.
Spectacular style was demonstrated by Shorttrack UK front runner Steve Hall on his MRS KTM. After successfully defending the Union Jack two weeks ago in Mühldorf, he had his mind set on the big track in Marianske Lazne! But there was just no catching Jan-Willem Jansen. After winning his first heat, which he started from the back row, he stayed in absolute dominance all day long accumulating maximum points. “After all the hard work and the disappointments in the first two rounds, this long pursued victory feels very rewarding!”
Round 3 of the International Mefo Sport Flattrack Cup was honoured with a visit from Jiri Kolar, the managing director for Harley-Davidson Czech Republic, who seized the opportunity to take the new XR1200 out for a visit to its flat track roots. He even did a lap on the track, but naturally let the proper flat track Harleys do the real racing.

Major Annoucement on Dates and Venues
Date and Venue changes have been made to our 2008 schedule.
Firstly the bad news is that the meeting which was planned for the 1/2 mile track at York Raceway will not take place in 2008. We first contacted the new owner in March and he was very keen to have ShorttrackUK at York, the rent was agreed and the track was passed by the ACU. We then found out that planning might be a problem but that was resolved last month and we were given the go ahead to run the meeting but unfortunately the new owner has decided to develop the stadium even further and feels that 2009 would be a better time to run motorcycles at the York Raceway venue.
The Good News is that Buxton Speedway have stepped into the breach and agreed to run a round of the Championship on the same date that was planned for York, Saturday 23rd August. The highest oval in the country in the hills of Derbyshire,it's a 240 metre cushioned paper clip shape. The main event will start at 6pm, practice at 3pm, heat races 4pm.
Mildenhall has been cancelled due to financial problems and now the Peterborough BMF meeting on 20th & 21st September will become a championship round in it's place and will also include the ACU Britsh National Championship as well.
All riders and officials will be informed about the changes by letter in the next few days.

Belli's Rain Dance
As the Rain fell on Teeside it was the Italian Marco Belli who took a fantastic win in an incident packed Grand Final of Round Three of the Silkolene Shorttrack Series. The rain held off for all the heat races which produced some cracking racing, with Star Guest rider Guy Martin only just missing out on semi final place with a crash on the last corner of the last chance race for the final transfer spot. Then the rain begain to fall for the Semi's and it seemed to favour some of the x speedway riders with Aidan Colins taking the win in the first semi and Adam Allott taking the second semi. The rain came down even hard for the Grand final but the riders just wanted to race. This time it was number 1 Marco who was able to work out the conditions and took the lead on lap one with Collins on the high line trying his best to pass Marco. Victor Bull moved up to 3rd but crashed on lap 5, then Collins went down on lap 7 in the tricky conditions. Steve Hall moved into second spot with a hard charging Ben Wells now in third spot. Marco just kept a pulling away on his works CCM and took his second Grand Final Victory of 2008.

Hodgson's inclusion in the field is sure to bring out the Speedway fans; whilst British Superbikes' man-of-the-moment and star of this year's Isle of Man TT, Guy Martin is the guest attraction for fans of other motorcycling persuasions, plus,Shorttracks Number 1 Italian Marco Belli, Aidan Collins, Victor Bull, Adam Allott, Peter Boast, Jon Bell, Ben Wells, Glyn Pocklington and many more.

Team England Win the Flat track of Nations

The spectators and fans were treated with the hardest racing ever seen on the Euro-pean continent! 28 riders from 7 nations went wide open after the valuable points un-der the hot Bavarian sun! Several engines went up in smoke as the 1000m cushion track lived up to it's engine killing reputation! With fantastic team spirit amongst the riders, the remaining bikes were shared within the teams and beyond. The title de-fenders from Great Britain were challenged hard from all corners. Jens Hinrichs on his GST KTM and Tommy Kunert on his Huber Aprilia from Germany, Oege de Jong on his KTM & Mick Jansen on his Dutch-Brothers KTM from the Netherlands, Marco Belli on the Ariete Kawasaki from Italy, Dani Müller on the Supertrapp Harley-Davidson from Switzerland. The tension rose with every race, and so did the heat! The only shade to be found was in the old paddock where live band WOMAN was getting the party started! Surprise of the day came out of the French corner! Philippe Stella, James Brun & Damien Bomais, all supported by Mefo, kept their heads down and the throt-tles open to grab point after point. And this while the friendly trio was racing on Maxxis DTR tires for the first time! With so many races and so many riders, the ten-sion was rising, who will be in the final? Then came the announcement from the refe-ree: Great Brittain, France, Italy & the Netherlands! 12 long laps under the grueling Bavarian sun, top speeds well over 160km/h, will the engines last? Marco First, Steve Hall and Oege de Jong close behind. Oege de Jong up in second and closing in on Marco Belli. Then Oege de Jong went wide and Steve Hall passed inside. Oege de Jong closing in again, but it was too late... Marco Belli crossed the line first, Steve hall sec-ond, Oege de jong third, Philippe Stella fourth, Pete Boast fifth, James Brun, Tim Greig, Damien Bomais, Mick Jansen, Dario Magnoni & Luca Talamona.
Great Britain won again! After their success in the short track of nations in 2007, they won the flat track of nations in 2008! France second and Italy third!

T.T STAR GUY MARTIN TO RIDE AT REDCAR
Hydrex Honda BSB rider Guy Martin will be riding at Round 3 of the Silkolene Shorttrack UK Championship. Guy who was the fastest rider at the Isle of Man TT this year had some real bad luck with machine failures, which preventend him from wining a race. Guy who has ridden in two other shorttrack meetings has his sights set on making the Grand Final. He said ' I'm going to give it my best effort just the same as riding the TT. My goal was to win at the TT, it didn't work out but you've got to set goals and in shorttrack it is to make the Grand Final. I'm hoping to go practicing next week with Boastie on some small 150 bikes just to see if I can get my tecnique sorted. My moto is 'Go big or go home!''
Redcar is on July 6th 2pm Main event.

Randy Krummenacher goes sideways!
The RedBull KTM 125GP rider from Switzerland is training on the flat track to further develop his riding skills! He hopes to compete in some of the Mefo European Flat Track rounds when he isn't racing in GP's.

MARCO BELLI WINS IN THE VALLEY
The Amman Valley 1/2 mile event was run in red hot conditions both on and off the track, the track action keeping the spectators sweating as they watched the riders pitching their bikes sideways at 100mph. The Silkolene ShorttrackUK Championship saw 36 riders battle it out to 12 rider Grand Final. Pete Boast and Marco Belli had their pick of the front row due to their semi final wins and along side them were two x speedway riders Adie Collins and Adam Allott.
It was Boast who made the hole shot but Belli passed him down the back straight. Boastie hung on to the back of Belli for three laps before he begain to pull away fromhim. Steve Hall had come through to third spot by passing Glynn Pocklington and just a bit further down the field Adie Collins, Tim Greig and Mick Janson were battling wheel to wheel for 5th 6th 7th. Belli pulled away to gain a commanding lead as Boast in turn pulled away from Hall. As the laps wound down it was Belli who brought the Works CCM Machine home to it's first UK victory in 2008, Boast was safe in second followed by Hall, Pocklinton and a last lap pass by Collins over Tim Greig rounded top 6 placings. This now means that Belli and Boast share the lead in the Championship.
The Thunderbike class had it's largest entry of the season, with 20 riders using the opportunity of riding the 1/2 mile track to really get their higher capacity bikes opened up and to great effect. The Final saw Jan- Willam Jansen on his Sundance XR1200 Harley Davidson push Boast on the Suzuki Twin for top spot , with Boast just seeming to have the upper hand on Jan to take the win. Jon "Captain highside " Lee brought the 700 Honda twin home into third spot.
In the Junior races it was no suprise that Tom Woolley won all his races in fine style but what wasn't expected was the fantastic racing between Joe Moore and Ben Baker with Joe coming out on top.
The Welbourn's of Wisbech sponsored Quad Championship had a slightly depleted field but the riders who did make the effort to get to this unique racing track had a ball and produced some great race racing. In the end it was guest rider Jim Penfold who proved to be number 1 on the 1/2 mile track on 4 wheels.

The bad news is that Ben Wells who rides 11r had his bike stolen out the back of his van in the early hours of this morning. It is an RMZ 450 with fazer forks fitted, lowered rear shock with a unique linkage and of course 19 " wheels and tyres. The bike was taken from the Hull area. TOUGH GOING FOR SHORTTRACK UK RIDERS IN THE STATES

Marco with Babe DeMay and Mark Burkart .........Joe Kopp and Jake Johnson flying high at the TT jump
Marco Belli, Pete Boast and Glyn Pocklington made the long trip to Springfield USA to try and qualify for the GNC TT race. There were 96 riders after the 48 places to make the show, so it was always going to be tough. The UK team only
had a 3 lap practice before going into 2 three laps timed sessions and although all three improved their times by a second every session, they still didn't make the cut, Marco was closest with 70th place. Pete said 'The jump was the place we lost most of our time, the top guys were jumping 120 feet long and higher than two double decker buses. We just haven't rridden anything like that before!'
Marco would like to thank Memphis Shades Yamaha Team owner Babe DeMay for supplying him with his bike.
Pete & Glynn would like to thank all the Suzuki USA Team for all their help - Dave, Travis, Ronnie, Brenda and Aussie Mick, for looking after the bike's transport and letting them stay at their
house.

CHAMPION OF THEM HALL

STEVEN HALL became the first winner of the Champions of Shorttrack at Peterborough Show Ground, run as part of the BMF motorcycle show. Steve and Marco Belli won all their heat races and Semi races to give them front row starts for the final and along side them were Aidan Collins and Peter Boast ready to start the 18 lap 12 rider Grand Final.
Hall got an electric start ,with Collins just behind him and the first two laps were pretty hetic with riders trying to stay on a narrow inside groove. The race settled down with Hall extending his lead and Collins also pulling away from third placed rider Victor Bull who had a freight trainof riders behind him Boast ,Belli, Tim Greig and Glyn Pocklington. On lap 10 Belli tried to pass Bull but hit his back wheel and came close to crashing. Lap 16 and Hall had the race in the bag, Collins was hanging on to second but the battle for 3rd was still on with Bull, Belli, Boast and Greig and it was on the last lap that Belli managed to make the move past Bull to take third spot.

Woolley's Winning Ways
Tom Woolley had a clean sheet again to win the FT Experience Junior race but he had to fight hard to beat his arch rival Ben Baker over 6 races. Ben and Tom had some fantastic wheel to wheel races but it was Tom who just had the upper hand, with 3rd spot going to young road racer Joe Moore.

Double Boast
The racing was hot on a cold and windy evening at the Norfolk Arena and the honours in Round 1 of 2008 ShorttrackUK Championship went to Peter Boast on a 450 Team Suzuki machine, who lead the Grand Final from start to finish but 2007 Number 1 plate holder Marco Belli was pushing hard to take 2nd spot on the factory CCM, with Steven Hall taking last spot on the podium on his 525 KTM. Rookie ride of the night went to former speedway star Aidan Collins with a fine 4th spot.
Boastie also brought his big 650 twin home 1st in the Thunderbike Race with Helmets4u rider of the night Kev Armstrong in 2nd spot and Paul Harrison 3rd.
The Quad Final was an all brothers affair with the win going to last year's champ Alan Hooker and his brother Mark in second spot.
Tom Woolley continued his dominance in the Juniors Championship by winning all his Heat races and the Grand Final.

KINGS LYNN ITALIAN INVASION!
Three Italian riders will be travelling across Europe to race at the Norfolk Arena, King's Lynn on the 19th April.
Marco Belli our 2007 Champ will be riding the new 450 CCM machine for the first time and Jacopo Monti who has already made the long drive once this year to only be rained off at the Redcar meeting, will be riding in his H-D Rotax in the Shorttrack Class and the Thunderbikes. Also riding a H-D Rotax is Luca Talamona who will be making his first trip to the UK and if he is as quick as his fellow country men, we might see an Italian clean sweep?

FORMER SHORTTRACKER DIES
We are sorry to report the sad news that Tom Beginn died in a road racing accident at Oulton Park on Friday. Tom competed in the 2006 Shorttrack Championship on a KTM and achieved some very good results, coming very close to making a grand final at Newport by just one place. Tom then concentrated on the tarmac and was coming up through the ranks in the club racing scene. Tom always kept in touch with shorttrack through his great friend Steve Hall. The friendly lad who's entry form was mislaid again or cheque book was in the washing machine, will be missed by all at shorttrack uk. Our thoughts are with Tom's family and friends at this sad time and God's Speed to Tom.

LANCS CLUB RESULTS FROM SCUNTHORPE 15/3/07
A strong entry of Shorttrack riders enjoyed the Lancs Grasstrack Club meeting at a very foggy Scunthorpe speedway Stadium. The National A Class saw an overall win for Glyn Pocklington, from Pete Boast who had 3 heats wins but crashed out in his second ride put paid to his chance of winning the class. Aiden Collins also had race win but crashed in his first race, but Glyn's consistant results including a great win in his last race over Boast earned him the overall win.
The Restricted B Class was just as competitive, with three different winners of the five heat races. Gary Inman got the first race win from Steve Coles, then Steve got the second win with Kev Armstrong taking the next two wins, but it was Steve that clinched the overal result with a win in the last race.
The Junior Shorttrack was all about two riders, Ben Baker and Tom Woolley. The two young riders battled hard in every race but it was Tom who got the overall result with his 4 wins and Ben's one.
New Junior Open Class
12/3/08
The Junior Shorttrack rules have been changed to accommodate a new 'open' class, to help attract new juniors to shorttrack. The new Open class will be for 12 to 15 year olds running up to 150cc two stroke and up to 250cc four stroke and will run in the same races as the CCM Junior Cup but there will be separate awards for the championship.
The other good news for our junior riders is that the CCM FT Experience
are awarding £50 to Rider of the Night in the CCM Junior Class. Max Clark from CCM FT Experience said 'We've had a great response to our training days from the juniors, so we wanted to put something back in the form of sponsorship to encourage the juniors to take part.
If any Juniors are interested in riding the Junior Classes, please contact the Shorttrack UK Office on 01507 313829 or e mail registrations@shorttrackuk.com.

Tough Going in USA
12/3/08
When the Shorttrack UK Team returned from the States today, Glyn Pocklington and Pete Boast were pleased with their performance. Pete came so close to achieving the goal of being the first European to race in the GNC and only missed the cut by 0.2 second and Glyn was also close at just 0.5 second off making the show. Speaking about his first experience of racing in the States, Glyn said it was pretty tough to travel half way around the world to get just two, 3 lap sessions to set a time and on a new bike!
They also competed in three, 1/2 mile events over there with Pete coming the closest to making a final by finishing 6th in a heat race, just one place off the cut.
One team member didn't make it over this year was Marco Belli, who's wife Chiara gave birth to little girl called Valentina as he was due to fly out, so he stayed at home to look after them and his his son Federico. Congratulations to you both.

SHORTTRACK UK TEAM TO RACE AT DAYTONA
24/2/08
Marco Belli, Peter Boast and Glyn Pocklington fly out on Wednesday to the States to hit the Dirttracks of the USA and race in the Grand National Championship Races at Daytona stadium. Before they ride in the GNC at Daytona they have three other meetings on 1/2 mile banked ovals, racing in the Hot Shoe Pro Sport Championship. The first meeting takes place at Savanah, GA on the 29th Feb, then they race at Volousia County Speedway on the 2nd and 3rd of March and then the two big nights when they get their chance to be the first Europeans to race in the GNC Championship on 5th & 6th of March at Daytona. Marco and Pete came close last year when they were just 0.3 of a second off making the top 60, for Glyn it his first taste of mixing it with USA Pro stars. Keep up with their progress on www.amaflattrack.com or keep checking for news on this site. BEST OF LUCK LADS...

Pete said he looked like he was really enjoying himself and was on the pace in a matter of laps. After the test ride he said he loved it and now would be looking at converting his own CRF honda MX bike into a flattracker and if he has time in his busy speedway schedule he might take a round in.

Triple A Racing & Maxxis Tyres Support Short Track UK
Triple A Racing, the distributors of Maxxis DTR1 Dirt Track Tyres within the UK, have announced a support package for the 2008 Short Track UK Championship.
Peter Boast takes up the story.....
PB “I first had a meeting with Tony Brock of Triple A Racing back at the Dirt Bike show in 2005, when I was first putting the Short Track Championship together. We met on the CCM stand where the new CCM Flat Track Bike was on display complete with pukka Maxxis DTR1 Dirt Track tyres, which Tony had arranged to be flown in especially. It certainly looked the part and got lots of attention over the period of the show.
I talked at length with Tony and asked what was the chance of him actually stocking the tyres, so that British Short Track riders would have a ready source of supply. No other tyre company in the UK or even in Europe as far as I knew was willing to take the risk on such a niche market at the time. He explained that it was a pretty complicated (and risky) decision and he would need to see what could be done. A couple of weeks later, he called and said from January 2006, he would have Maxxis DTR1’s in stock and available to buy. I was pretty chuffed, as from one chance meeting, we now had some ‘proper’ Flat Track items available in the UK for the first time.
Triple A Racing sold the tyres throughout 2006 with several race wins and in 2007, Champions Marco Belli and myself both used the tyres to great effect throughout the year. On the premise that nothing ventured, nothing gained, I approached Tony again to see what, if any, support he could provide for the 2008 season. Fortunately he said yes again and this is how he explained it .....”
TB “Yes we took a risk supporting Pete with his Short Track venture back in 2006, but to be honest, he is a very likable bloke and his sheer enthusiasm and passion for Short Track was what made me go ahead with the stocking decision initially and then our subsequent decision to support the series financially this year. I think in the future we hope to be able to add more support from Maxxis themselves, but for 2008, it’s a package that we as the UK distributors for these tyres, can just about manage on our own.
Essentially, for every pair of Maxxis DTR1 tyres that a competitor buys from Triple A Racing, we will donate an amount of money directly to the Short Track UK Championship. No complications, no legal contracts, just a very straight forward agreement that sees the series benefit when competitors show loyalty to those who support the sport. I’m hoping that competitors will be just as loyal as previous years, only this time they’ll know that when they do choose Maxxis DTR1’s, they are actually helping Short Track UK to grow – which is nice! As far as I am aware, no other tyre manufacturer or distributor is matching our support package in 2008 and I’d ask competitors to bear that in mind when they are buying new tyres this year.
We send out the tyres via a 3 day UPS mail order service and competitors can order on-line, direct from our website so it couldn’t be easier really – having said that I’ve found that a few riders get their girlfriends or wives to place their orders for them so maybe it could be easier or are we missing something? We keep both compounds; CD3 Soft and CD5 Medium and I would say there is a slight bias towards the CD3 compound overall. The tyres seem well suited to most of the UK tracks which is quite a feat as they were designed to race in the USA where nobody races in the rain!
From all of us at Triple A racing, we wish all competitors in the 2008 Short Track UK Championship, the best of luck"
BOASTIE'S CRACKER
A hugely entertaining afternoon of top class dirt track motorcycle racing saw Market Rasen’s experienced Peter Boast roll back the years with victory in the annual Short Track Christmas Cracker event at Scunthorpe Speedway Stadium on Sunday (30th. December). [writes DEREK BARCLAY]
A large crowd gathered for the regular winter warmer event – sponsored this year by Robspeed Motorcycles of Grimsby - to see a range of top motorcycling talent engage in no-holds barred action as they threw their powerful bikes into the corners of the tight Normanby Road circuit with only a rear brake to assist and in close combat with eleven other speedsters per race.
Among the stars the crowds came out to cheer on a delightfully unseasonably mild afternoon, was British Superbikes star Steve Plater from Kirkby-on-Bain, Lincs; and the twice Macau GP winner didn’t disappoint: storming all the way to the Grand Final courtesy of top three placings in each of his three heats and the semi. Stealing a march on Plater in that semi had been the surprise packet of the afternoon, Merseyside’s Craig Spence who produced the form of his life with three wins out of four to take up position on the front grid of the Final. Plater and Spence were joined there by Boast and Redcar Bears Speedway rider, Rusty Hodgson – who’d been imperious in winning his first two heats and then besting Boast in the first semi. Just behind this front row was Stamford’s moto-cross expert Victor Bull – who was at his typically rampaging best as the tapes rose on the 12 hear spectacular finale to proceedings. Plater then assumed the mantle, before Hodgson shot to the front with Boast held-up for four laps contending with the closest of attentions from his rivals including the fast-improving Skegness-based Glynn Pocklington.
Once away from the trio of Pocklington, Bull and Plater, Boast set about reigning in a fast tiring Hodgson; and thus it was on lap seven that the one-time Isle of Man TT rider, Boston Speedway skipper of old and once a rostrum man in the World Indoor Ice Racing championships belied his fortysomething status to storm past the younger man and hold on for victory. Spence – for whom the Final proved one race too many – passed Plater for fifth; with Bull making up the rostrum positions behind Hodgson and just ahead of his regular Short Track rival, Pocklington.
Much of the thrills of an incident packed afternoon had come courtesy of multi-GB Grasstrack champion and a Scunthorpe Scorpion Speedway rider in 2006, Paul Cooper – the Yorkshire-based star defying both the odds and seemingly gravity at times as he fence-scrapped his way through to the Grand Final and eighth overall. Cooper’s Boston Speedway club compatriot (with whom he’d won the Conference Pairs on this very Normanby Rd. circuit in the summer) Simon Lambert impressed on his Short Track debut with a battling 11th. place overall.
In the Short Track Quads event the Hooker brothers from Caister recorded a memorable double with Alan first and sibling Mark second in the ‘A’ Final ahead of an unlucky Mark Ramsdale – the Banshee-mounted Ramsdale from Chesterfield holding his own with National Champ, Alan Hooker until spinning out of control on the penultimate lap. For the Derbyshire man, though, there was something of a family affair too: with wife – and solitary female competitor on the afternoon – Mandy Renshaw securing household bragging rights by triumphing over the men on her pink-coloured Quad in the ‘B’ Final.
