.....PLATER TO RACE 2012 GNC .....

Former I.O.M. TT and Macau GP winner Steve Plater is hoping to compete in the full GNC Championship this year. Steve is still recovering from a nasty arm injury which put him out for most of last season's racing, after high siding at Thruxton on the Padgetts Honda. Steve said 'I've got another op on my arm coming up and hope still to be fit for the first round of Flattrack. I'm still not 100% sure what Road Racing I'll be doing next season, but I'm set on racing as much Flattrack as I can.' Steve raced in the first round of the GNC at Oxford last season and made the Grand Final and I'm sure he will be hoping to continue his form in 2012.

We are pleased to confirm on Saturday May 19th that we will be racing at former Speedway GP Stadium, Brandon Road Coventry, home of the Coventry Bees Speedway Team. This is thanks to a partnership with Sideburn Magazine and will be RD 3 of the Club and Grand National Championship. We will give more details on this meeting as the Sideburn boys get to work on a unique meeting.

Christian Iddon to ride Flattrack Championship??

The World Supermoto contendor and former British Supermoto champion is hoping to race in the 2012 British Flattrack Championship. Christian, who is Road Racing now in the British Supersport Championship for Triumph has confirmed that he intends to race with us as long as he gets the go ahead from his road race team. Christian said 'I watched it on TV during the winter and it really got me wanting to race Flattrack. I'm pretty sure it will help me out with my road racing as well. I'm hoping to be riding a Husaberg prepped for flattrack by Dave Clarke Racing, I've just got to clear it with Triumph then I'm well up for it.'

HOT NEWS
We are in talks with two new manfactures who wish to run teams in this year's championship. Both have run machines in the States before but never in UK. We hope to be able to announce who they are in couple of weeks.

THUNDERBIKES

2012 Grand National Thunderbike Championship will be sponsored by Co - Built

Co-Built was set up to support the UK race scene by building frames, exhausts and other parts for Flattrack machines. Anthony(Brown) and Geoff (Cain) the owners of Co-Built proved their confidence in their own product and went out and raced their own machines. They were rewarded with the Thunderbike title in 2011 when Anthony was crowned Thunderbike Champion.
Anthony said 'We are very proud to be the title sponsor for the 2012 season. Last year we had 5 bikes competing in the series and 4 of those bikes finished in the top 10. For 2012 we hope to have at least 7 bikes racing. We will also continue to support Pete Boast and Tim Neave with parts for their DTX bikes. We are really looking forward to the 2012 season and will continue to do our best to support racing in the UK and Europe.'
We like to say a big thank you to Steve Hillary of Redmax who has supported the Thunderbike Class for the last two seasons and will continue his support for Thunderbikes in the Club Championship. Steve is having a year out from riding, while getting over the injury he picked up at Rye House last season and is happy to let the Co- Built boys have the lime for the up and coming 2012 season.

Looking back at the Highs and Lows of the 2011 season

HIGHS 2011

We took Flattrack racing to Dublin's fair City and made history - this was the first time Flattrack racing has ever been seen in Ireland.

New Club Championship was a great success with 6 round championship, helping to bring new riders into the sport, with three Junior Classes and a new Adult Novice Class.

Oxford RD 1 of the Grand National Championship was a huge success, thanks to lot of hard work from riders, helpers and the stadium, to bring racing back to the former Speedway Stadium at Oxford. It was a lovely evening with a great crowd and fantastic racing and a real humdinger of a Final, with Tyson Nelson and Ade Collins battling for the win.
We also brought over 'On Any Sunday' legend Dave Aldana to Oxford. Not only did he give us a great evening on the fantastic 'Sideburn' night, he raced at Oxford at 63 years old and as the film says" if you think his antics are wild off the track ,wait to you see him on the track". Thanks Dave you were amazing!
Fastest Yet !

In August the riders got to sample a real cushioned 1/2 mile fair ground track, for a one off International meeting at Tir Prince Trotting Track,Rhyl, North Wales. The speeds were unbelivable, even when it rained the riders kept it on the gas.
Team Flattrack UK In USA
Thanks to sponsorship from friends and riders involved in the scene, Flattrack UK managed to send a UK team to the States. It was lead by Boastie with three of the fastest young up and coming riders from England -Tom Woolley ,Ben Baker and Tim Neave. The team raced over two weekends with 7 meetings in 12 days, on varying types of track, from 1/2mile Fairground tracks in Kansas, a fantasticly prepared 300metre track in Galesberg and the famous Peoria TT.This was a trip of a life time for the boys and big thanks go to Travis Smith from Suzuki USA Flattrack team for supplying the bikes.
Ade Collins 2 x Champion
Ade Collins was always the man to beat in 2012 and only two people did that - Tyson Nelson at Silverstone and Tom Woolley at Kings Lynn TT, the rest of the time Adian was unstopable. Well done Adian you were the well deserved Champion of 2011.
WWW.CELTIBERO.CH CARBON FLATTRACK PARTS
After just six years of racing in the UK and thanks to the support from Celtibero, we got the full Grand National UK Championship on Sky TV in front of thousands of people. I bet our friends from accross the pond are very jealous!

LOWS 2011

Seeing Geoff Baldock unable to miss Dave Aldana when he crashed on turn 3 at Oxford, with Geoff getting an arm injury which put him out for the season and forced him to retire from the sport.

Silverstone Track

It was a real shame the track was so rough. We had some input into how the track should be prepped but the Silverstone staff kept delaying building the track and only started work on the Tuesday before the meeting, so we knew it was going to tough to get it right but I guess we were pleased the meeting was still a success, and lets hope next year the track will be a lot better.

Raining again at Amman Valley.

You can never seem to get away from the rain in Wales and this year was no exception. It rained all day Friday and then Saturday we had to call off the Club meeting but the sun did shine on Sunday for some racing, phew!

STEVE IN THE WARS AGAIN
Thunderbike sponsor and rider Mr Redmax Steve Hillary was going really well on his new Norton thunderbike, until Ryehouse, where he got involved in a crash and managed to brake several bones which put him out for the season. This is the second season Steve as had a nasty injury, let's hope it's the last!

No Indoor Meeting

We found out in the summer that Towerlands, Braintree had closed down. This left us looking for a new venue, which we found at Arena UK near Grantham. We tested the venue with some bikes and agreed a deal with the owner in October, then two weeks later he came back to us with planning problems meaning he couldn't run us this winter. We tried two other venues but to no avail. This was a real shame as last year was a great succes, but we promise that we will be back running indoors next year again.

FLATTRACK UK ON SHOW

It's Show time again and we're out and about promoting our great sport. We're starting the new year at the Newark Show Ground on Jan 7th and 8th at Morton's Classic Winter Show. This is a new show for 2012, with over 400 plots indoors and outdoors, and the star guest at the show is road race star Steve Plater, who raced at Oxford Rd 1 this year. Steve got injured road racing not long after Oxford and was not able to ride for the rest of the season. You can see Steve on our stand as he is big Flat Track fan and hopes to be racing with us again in 2012, now he his nearly back to race fitness again.
We are also having a stand and a display area for thunderbikes at the Telford Classic Off Road Show on Feb 4th and 5th, plus the famous ACE CAFE are having a Flattrack and Streettrackers day on Feb the 26th with bikes and gear from Redmax,Co-Built,Sideburn and US, there will be lots of bikes on display, making it well worth the trip.

UK riders Peter Boast,Glyn Pocklington and Darren Trapmore travelled over 2000 miles, through 9 different countries to compete in the International FMI Flat Track Meeting in Milan, which was held as part of the huge Milan Motorcycle Show. Boastie got two wins and a 4th place in his heat races, second in the Semi and ended up third in the Final. Daz Trapmore had some mega rides, beating Marco in one heat to take a win, he had a second and a 4th in the other heats, then managed 3rd in the Semi and finished a fine 6th place in the Final. Pocko had some bad luck, he blew up a bike up in practice, then had back row starts in all his races on a borrowed bike, so he only scraped into the last chance. He made a blinder of a start but it got stopped as a jump start, he was put off the back, so he didn't make the final, tough! Germany has a flat track champion!

Stefan Gatzenmeier went in to the last round with a healthy 9 points lead over JW Jansen and 14 points over Mick Jansen. But the 250m track in Lelystad only offered 9 starting positions for the grand final and 17 fast and eager riders were ready to fight for honors! Former European shorttrack champion Sytze Hilleger, former dutch speedway champion Berry de Vos and flattrack pro and reigning Monobike champion Michelle Disalvo hd to battle it out with young guns like speedway star Pascal Schwart and dutch gras track aces Maikel Dijkstra, Johan van der Meij and Reinse de Jong. All were in good shape and the qualifying heats delivered some spectacular and fierce battles!
First one to miss the cut was Jan-Willem Jansen, an over enthusiastic move ended in a lowsider in his first heat and wrecked his chances right there. Everyone was looking forward to the grand final over 15 laps on the challenging and technically demanding short track. Sytze Hilliger made the hole shot and was closely followed by Disalvo and de Vos. Van der Meij and Dijkstra spend the entire final fighting for fourh position. Reinse de Jong made a bad start and fought back to sixt. Mick Jansen and Gatzenmeier changed positions several times in the first laps before Jansen pulled a gap to which he could not hold on. Gatzenmeier came back in the closing stages and regained the advantage over Jansen. Sytze Hilleger kept cool and took the victory. Disalvo tried hard to outsmart de Vos, but “the fox” did not fall for the trap and came in second! Michelle Disalvo third and Johan van der Meij won the battle for fourth!
Other highlights this season were round 4 in Marianske Lazne were 6 new riders turned up from the Czech republic! Rounds 3 & 6 saw the debut of the junior class in which Oliver Brindley and Tobias Gatzenmeier charmed the fans! Hopefully they will inspire many more juniors in 2012!

Aidan Collins won his second UK title in succession and in great style by winning the last round of the Pozzani Grand National Flat Track uk Championship, run under floodlights at Rye House Speedway stadium on Saturday evening. The Redmax Thunderbike class was full of thrills and spills, none worse than Mr Redmax himself Steve Hillary who was invovled in a nasty three rider crash in the middle of turn 3, Steve was taken to hospital with a suspected broken shoulder and left leg, we are wishing him well for speedy recovery. 12 Thunderbike riders progressed to the final from the initial 24 riders who took aprt in the heat, dominated by Jacopo Monti, who did the same in the final, leading from start to finish but it still wasn't good enough to take the 2011 Championship, as Anthony Brown brought the Co-Built Rotax home in 4th place, giving him the title win by 7 points. Alan Birtwistle had a great ride to get second spot and the first Co-Built rider home was Guy Sutherland with fine Third spot.

Tom takes Junior Title.

Tom Neave won the Arrow Engineering Junior Class in dominant style. Tom has won every round this year and wins the Title his brother won just 12 months ago, will be able to move up to the adult class for the remainder of the season, and with sponsorship from his Grandad he already has a 450 ready to go, so watch out Ade Collins! The Junior racing behind Tom was excellent with young Oliver Brindley riding a 85cc Yamaha to the limit and getting the better of the boys on 250's, Ben Chatterton picked up last spot on the podium, just giving him 2nd in the Championship.

No Bull - Geoff takes the Win

Goeff Bull and Darren Trapmore gave the crowd a real show, racing handle to handle on two types of Mini Bikes. Geoff was on the small wheeled 150 Stomp which was very quick down the straight but harder to ride in the corners and in turn Darren rode the bigger wheeled 150 machine which was slower than Bully's bike on the straight but handled a lot better in corners, which meant every race there must of been 15 passes between them but it was Geoff who got the overall win, Darren second and Geoff JNR third.

Round 4 of the Shorttrack UK Club Championship took place at Buxton High Edge Speedway this Sunday 4th September, with the best weather we've had there for ages. The day ran smoothly, with over thirty races for National Pro, Restricted, Novice, Thunderbike, Mini's, Junior, Inter and Youth classes, and all results being determined by total points scored over all heats, with a double point fourth race, except for the thunderbike class which had a proper final as there were more riders in that class.

Well done to all the riders and a big thanks to all staff and marshalls for a well run meeting (welcome back Andy!)

USA TRIP TEAM SHORTTRACKUK

The Shorttrackuk Team left Heathrow, London on 10th August to compete in some of the oldest and most famous flattrack meetings in the USA. Boastie lead the team of some of the best young riders in the country - Tom Woolley, Ben Baker and Tim Neave, along with the crew of Tom's grandad Melv, Ben's dad Kenny boy and Tim's Uncle Tim Coles who took all the pics.

We landed at St Louis and drove to Jefferson City, Missoure where we hooked up with Travis Smith (former spanner man for Jake Johnson, Chris Carr and Kopp), who runs DBM Motorsport and was supplying our bikes. Travis was flat out working on sprint cars when we rolled up at 11pm, some bikes were in bits, with engines out, heads off etc., and knowing we were testing the next day it seemed a lot of work but Travis worked through the night to get the engines together. The next day we all set to to put all the bikes together, then loaded up. Travis then informed us his local test track was 2 hours away, so by the time we got to the 5/8 ths banked stockcar track it was 10 pm. The owner met us at the gate, switched on the floodlights and said 'There you go boys, have skid, take long as you want' and they didn't even charge us a dollar!!

Our first meeting was at Colby, Kansas which was an 8 hour drive and we rolled up just in time for sign on. As we got into the pits Chris Carr was there to greet us shouting'hey you limeys can park near me'. Over the next two weeks Chris was awesome, he spent so much time coming over helping us with advice on riding and bike set up, plus showing us how to chew tobacco, cooking fresh fish for us all, and besides that he had all the races except one at Kansas. We all entered the pro 450 Class. The track was banked like Daytona, even the straights had steep banking. We all made it to the final, me and Ben were a bit off the pace in the final, Tom was on the back of a freight train but Tim was the star rider and finished 7th in the final.

Next day it was a 2 hour trip to Norton Kansas, a 1/2 mile dark clay track that was an old stock car track, lined with armco all the way round with the odd straw bale. We were all going much quicker than we were used to but it still blue groved up. Again, we all made the final, Tom had a fantastic ride and got 5th, I was 10th, Ben 11th and Tim had header pipe crack and had to retire. There was some sad news that one of the vintage competitors crashed and died at track, which we didn't find out till after the meeting.

Next day we went to Weeknee race way and watched some Sprintcar racing, then on to Stockton Kansas, where they've been racing Flattrack at the Fair grounds since the 30's and the tradition was for all the riders to ride through the town on their bikes which was pretty cool. Chris Carr lead the parade behind a police car, while the rest of us popped wheelies behind.
We entered 2 pro class, open and 450. The Stockton track had a hard concrete wall at the start and finish but for the rest of the track there was nothing - just a bank to fly over if you got it wrong! It was a fast track with long straights and we all struggled a little bit with the pace over the two days. We made all the Finals filling the last 4 spots in final, but it still was great fun and we learnt a lot.

Next we had 2 days off from racing but we had an 8 hour drive back to Jefferson, a day working on the bikes, then a 6 hour drive to Peoria,IL Shorttrack, so not much rest was had. This time there was a lot stronger field and the Experts had their own Class and we rode in the pro 450. The track was banked like Colby but smaller and a bit rougher surface but you could ride anywhere high or low. We found it tough going only Tim made the Final where he finished 17th.

The next we were at Galesburg,IL, a little track standing on top of a mound, in the middle of a field, with gripiest dirt I've ever ridden, it was more like we ride back home. In practice Ben got it all wrong going into turn one and dissappeared over the edge, he must have flown 30ft through the air but managed to stay on! We were all a lot quicker here, we got to the Semi's and we were all in Semi 2. I got the holeshot, only to be passed by a girl (well a fast girl) Shyna Texter. By the end of the race Tim passed me for 3rd, I was 4th, Tom 5th, Ben 7th but only the winner got to the Final.

Next morning we were up at 6am to get to the famous Peoria TT track. Tom was the only rider representing UK and only had 4 laps to try to get used to track before qualifing, then he had 2x 4 laps to get into the top 32 out 42 riders - a pretty tall order as all the other riders had raced here two months ago. Tom missed the cut at 39th fastest but we were still proud of him, he was just 0.8 second off making the show. 30,000 fans watched the meeting (wish we could get same at kings lynn). Henry Wiles won again, I think thats his seventh time now but he's still got few more wins to get yet to beat Chris's 9 wins. It was Chris 's last time at Peoria and they gave him a great send off.
We said our goodbyes to new and old friends we've met and headed back to St Louis to catch our plane back to Blitey, having had a great time.

Where do we start with thank you's?

Travis Smith (for sorting bikes and transport),Chris Carr and family for spending so much time with us ,Frank Harding and his Team at the Kansas races, All our sponsors including Jacopo Monti, Marshall Kinrade and every one who sponsored our push bike ride at Amman, we all appreciate your help with our trip of a lifetime.

Ade Collins the Prince of Wales

Ade Collins took the £500 first place prize fund away from the first ever full 1/2 mile Fair Ground Flat Track meeting ,by winning the International All Stars Grand Final at Tir Prince Trotting Track, North Wales on Saturday 6th. The first heat races were run on a beautfully prepared track, with riders hitting 100 + and hardly slowing down for the corners, the racing fast furious but by heat 6 the rain begain to fall. After a 1/2 hour delay racing got under way again and the heat races were completed.
Semi 1 saw a great battle of the 2 young guns Suzuki's Tim Neave and Pidcock Honda rider Tom Woolley and it was Tim who took the win just from Tom, with Mark Richardson 3rd and Glynn Pocklington and Superbike rider Johnny Ingram making his first Flat Track Final. In Semi 2 Ade Collins lead from start to finish, Ben Baker had a good second anf the battle was for third with Darren Trapmore ,Pete Boast and Ben Wells. Trapmore and Boast made it through but Wells came to grief on the last lap and former long track rider Andy Riley benfited with the final transfer spot.
The Last Chance race was a right royal battle between Tim Greig,Dave Holman,Steve Coles,Neil Martin and Paul Baleta but it was Coles that took the win and Neil Martin on the Thunderbike got the last transfer spot.
The Grand final lined up with 12 riders in one line on the wide Tir Prince track. Woolley and Collins hole shotted but Collins swept around the out side and took the lead from Woolley, Baker, Neave , Richardson, Boast and Trapmore.
Collins pulled away from Woolley who in turn was leaving the battle in 3rd, with Neave trying to go round the outside of Baker. Boast and Richardson were swaping places every lap. Going into the last lap Collins had gone way out in front,Tom woolley was holding position from Ben Baker and Tim Neave who was battling it out still. The Chequered flag was held out for Ade Collins to take the first Grand Final win at Tir Prince, Woolley took 2nd and Baker held on to third spot.

WOOLLEY WINS TT

Pidcock Team Honda Rider Tom Woolley flew to a fantastic win in Round 5 of the Pozzani Grand National UK Flat Track Championship on Saturday at the Norfolk Artena. The 17 year from Burton On Trent even suprised himself by taking the win. Tom said 'Last year I didn't even make the Final, so to pull off the win was amazing, and thanks to the Pidcock CRF Honda which worked awesome.'
The TT race is part of the Flat Track Series and involves left and right handers and jumps but the vital thing is that the riders still only run only a rear brake! By time it got to the Grand Final Richard Mason was unbeaten and had pole,Tom Woolley had second pick after winning semi 2 and also chose the front row, along with "Cowboy " Glyn Pocklington and Ben "Smiler" Baker.
At the start of the Grand Final all the riders charged to the first corner, Suzuki rider Tim Neave took a highside and took Daz Trapmore down on the Kinrade Honda and the race had to be stopped. In restart it was Ben Baker who made the hole shot and as all 12 riders came over the start line on the first lap it was Baker still from Woolley, Pocklington, Alan Birtwistle, Mason, Ade Collins, Pete Boast, David Haith, Tim Greig, Richard May, Tim Neave and Darren Trapmore. By Lap 3 the riders were swapping places and the lead was with Tom Woolley from Baker and Boast got past Collins into 6th. On lap 5 there was a freight train of 8 riders battling for the lead,"Magic" Mason had moved past Birtwistle into 4th spot, with Boast and Collins moving past Birtwistle on lap 6. As the race progressed the freight train was still together, with Woolley stretching just a bike length ahead of Baker who had the rest of the field snapping at his heels. Mason now moved past Pocklington and Boast and Collins were putting the pressure on Pocko. During the last lap Tom Woolley made no mistakes and took his first Grand National final of the year, Baker held on to a fine 2nd place from Richard Mason and with Pocklington just loosing out to Boast and Collins on the final lap to finish 6th.

It was still enough to win on overall points though and he remains at the top of the championship.

Carl Fogarty and Jamie Whitham are currently making a DVD about riding different motorcycle sports and went to Coventry Stadium on Wednesday to shoot some Flat Track action. The boys got some tips from Ade Collins and Pete Boast before they took to the track, then they took part in some races with 10 other riders. The DVD will be out in November if you want to see how they did.

COLLINS THE KING OF LEICESTER

Aidan Collins took his third win out of four rounds of the Pozzani Grand National Championship at the new Leicester Speedway Stadium on Sunday 17th July. Collins, riding his H M Plant Honda was in dominant form, only dropping one race all day to Glyn Pocklington in a heat race. He cruised to victory in his Semi, giving the young guns of Tom Woolley on his Pidcocks Honda and Tim Neave riding for Team Suzuki a lesson in the fastest way around Leicester. Also making final were Ben Wells and Ben Baker both on Honda's. With rain beginning to fall for Semi 2, Suzuki rider Peter Boast mastered the conditions best and took the win from Italy's Jacopo Monti, Glyn Pocklington, David Haith and Richard Mason. Ten riders went through to the Grand Final, leaving just two more to find from the 12 rider last chance dash, which proved to be a real four- way dice with Darren Trapmore, Derek Brindly, Alan Birtwistle and Speedway Star Adam Allott, with places swapping throughout the race, with Derek Brindley and Adam Allott finally getting the transfer spots.

Rain was still falling as the Grand Final lined up but the track was still holding up well. Aidan Collins made a rocket proppelled start into the first corner from Woolley, Boast, Monti and Neave. On lap 2 Collins already had a bike length lead as Monti squeezed past Boast on turn 1, with Mason, Haith and Wells battling hard for 6, 7 and 8th places. By lap 6 Collins was way in the front with a half straight lead and Tom Wolley was coming under lots of pressure from Jacopo Monti who had two team Suzuki riders of Boast and Neave on his tail.

On lap 8 Monti maked a move on Woolley but Woolley came right back and repassed him. By lap 12 Collins still had healthy lead, there was still strong battle going on for 2nd to 5th with Woolley, Monti, Boast, Neave then Richard Mason was pulling in the gap to join that battle. As the 15 race laps were completed it was Honda's Aidan Collins who took his 3rd Grand Final victory of the season, 18 year old Tom Woolley took a fine 2nd spot after much pressure form the likeable Italian Jacopo Monti who held on to 3rd spot.

Collins is King of the Valley

Aidan Collins dominated Round 3 of the Pozzani Grand National UK Flat Track Championship, at the half mile trotting track at Amman Valley this weekend. From the very first heat race Collins looked the man to beat after winning comfortably from Tim Neave and Richard Mason. When the semi's came around, Collins won again but this time he was put under a lot of pressure from the young Lincolnshire rider Ben Baker. The other semi was won by Pidcock's Honda rider Tom Woolley, who had a great dice with Richard "Magic" Mason and 16 year old Suzuki rider Tim Neave.
Grand Final line up consisted of - front row Collins, Woolley, Baker, Mason, second row, Neave, Ben Wells, Wayne Drake, Glyn Pocklington and the back row comprised Peter Boast, Alan Birtwistle and two riders from last Chance Darren Trapmore and Steve Coles.
Collins made no mistake and holeshoted out the first corner with rest pack hard after him. By the end of the first lap Collins already had a bike length lead from Mason, Woolley, Wells, and Neave with Drake rounding out the top 6. On lap 3 Collins was way in front and the battle was on for second 2nd spot between Mason and Woolley, with Tim Neave closing in on the pair. On lap 5 Wayne Drake went down in middle of the pack while in 5th spot, scattering riders all over, then on lap 6 Suzuki's Tim Neave came to grief when challenging for third spot.
By the 9th lap in the blistering heat Collins had 1/2 a straight lead and Mason had pulled away from Woolley. The battle for fourth was hotting up with Ben Wells, Boastie and Baker. As the race reached full distance H M Plant rider Aidan Collins cruised to victory, with Richard Mason in a safe second spot, Tom Woolley was being closed down by Ben Wellsbut held on for the last spot on the podium. That now gives Collins a 20 point lead in the Championship from Aussie Star Tyson Nelson, who now has just a 3 point lead over Tom Woolley in third spot.

FANTASTIC NEWS ON TV COVERAGE OF GNC UK CHAMPIONSHIP,

We can now confirm that the rest of Grand National UK Championship will be covered for Motors TV !!!!
After talks between the production company and Angel Salvadore of Celtibero, the two have reached an agreement to carrying on filming the Championship. Angel said " We are pleased to come confirm that we are able support the TV Coverage for the rest of the season. It's a big commitment for my company but a very important one to help the to sport grow. However we still need other sponsors to come on board just like Silkolene did at Silverstone, and the fact that we've got the full season covered means we will secure prime spots on the Motors TV Schedule, making it more attractive for other sponsors to come on board as well."
Motors TV are looking at airing the first round (Oxford) in October, a better time of the year for viewing figures, with the remainder of the Championship to follow over two months leading into December.

Aussie Star Rules Silverstone GP Flatttrack

Tyson Nelson won Round 2 of the Pozzani Grand National UK Championship in spectacular style on Saturday, at a meeting which was held at Silverstone as part of the Moto GP weekend. The oval track that was built at the off-road complex for this event, saw 56 riders compete in a timed qualification session in the afternoon, to try make the top 36 rider field for the evening event .

In front of a packed house the early heats saw a lot of action, as the newly laid track took a while to settle down, In the first heat race Tyson Nelson was looking strong, as he won beating fastest qualifer Richard Mason. Further heat wins went to Marco Belli, Adian Collins, Peter Boast, Tom Woolley, Alessandro Scalabrin, Tim Neave and Glyn Pocklington, with the top 24 riders progressing to the heats.

The first Semi saw a clash between Collins and Nelson - the top two in the Championship - and it was Nelson who took the hole shot and lead Collins, Scalabrin, Boast and Ben Baker. Collins pushed Nelson during the early stages but as laps wound down Tyson pulled away and took the win from Collins, Scalabrin and Boast with Jacopo Monti taking last spot through to the final.
Semi two was a superb win for Italy's Fabrizio Vesprini who headed "Magic" Mason, Woolley, Belli and Vittorio Marzotto into the Grand Final. With only two transfer places left for 12 rider Grand Final from the last chance race, it was Marco Buzzi who took the early lead but he was under pressure from Alan Birtwistle, David Haith, Tim Neave and Daz Trapmore. With two laps to go it was Birtwistle who took the lead, but Buzzi held on to take that final spot and Birtwistle earning his National Number.

The Grand Final riders walked out with their machines in front of an enthusatic crowd, many of whom hadn't seen Flat Track before. On the front row was Vesprini, Nelson, Mason, Collins, second row Woolley, Scalabrin, Belli, Boast and the third row Monti, Marzotto, Birtwistle and Buzzi. After a few riders jumped the start they were recalled for a restart, when Vesprini got the hole shot. Woolley went down, skattering riders all over but the race continued with Vesprini in the lead from Neslon, Collins, Mason, Scalabrin and Marzotto. Nelson got past Vesprini then Collins followed him through and by lap 4 Collins was past Nelson and Mason was in third. During the next 7 laps Nelson was trying everything to get past Collins and the crowd watched with amazement as he was in and out of his seat, giving it all he'd got.
On lap Collins succumbed to his pressure and Aussie star managed to make the front again. Collins continued to fight with Mason only a couple of bike lengths behind but Tyson held on, crossing the line on his back wheel to take his first Grand National UK Championship win, with Collins second from Mason who got a fine third spot.

The ok for new 1/2 mile track

We can confirm that the new 1/2 mile track whose owners we've been in talks with the last 4 months is Tir Prince Raceway,Conway, North Wales and that they have now got the ok from the local Council to run Flat Track at their venue. The track is a full 1/2 mile in length, with a lime stone surface and will be the fastest track in the country. Although we won't be able to run a GNC round there this year, we are hoping to run a one-off event on August 6th on Saturday evening. The venue has an amusement park, Go Kart track and retail Market as part of it's complex. It is very close to the holiday town of Ryl and in the summer the holiday parks around the track can hold 25'000 people. We are hoping to have a meeting with the owners next week to firm up the date and the format of the meeting.

Belli Wins FIM International Flat Track Meeting

.

Lonigo, Saturday 21st May
Italian Flat Track specialist Marco Belli won the FIM Flat Track test meeting in style which was held in Lonigo in a warm Saturday night.
He topped the main event after the qualifying heats dropping his only point to Fabrizio Vesprini in his first outing. He also dominated the semifinal 1 –he missed completely the gate- and went from third to first and the final after a tough battle for first position with British youngster Tom Wooley.
Belli said afterwards “I’m over the moon after this prestigious victory and it is like the icing on the cake after a lot of years of racing. I dedicate this win to myself and to my family who have supported me during my whole career. I was really proud to heard the Italian anthem after the prize-giving ceremony”
The meeting saw a lot of overtakings and passes in which was a real advertising for the speciality.
The race format saw the main event with 8 heats which featured 8 riders and were run over 6 laps. The first three riders for each semifinal went straight to the final and the last chance heat qualified the last two riders to the final. The final was run over 12 laps.
One of the best races of the night was heat number 3 in which eventual winner Belli came from third to first in a couple of laps.
The fifth heat was also another race to remember for the fans. Vesprini and Belli battled elbow to elbow for a couple of laps in a classic Italian derby.
Runner-up was hot prospect British Tom Wooley. He started the meeting with a third place, but then found extra speed and was one of the best entertainer of the night.
Third on the rostrum was Aidan Collins, the other British rider in the line-up. He collected three straight second places in the main event and also in his semifinal. He zipped from the gate in the final and seemed on his way to the victory, but was passed by Belli and Vesprini on the second bend of the second turn.
Also the last chance heat deserved be to mentioned. Hungarian rider Onodi Bejamin rocketed from the tapes and lead for a couple of laps. He then was passed by Lucarini and Scalabrin for the last places in the final.
Fabrizio Vesprini, one of the pre-meeting favourite, finished the meeting just outside the rostrum places. He was leading at he halfway stage and was well in contention for a medal place before being passed by fellow countrymen Belli and British pack Wooley and Collins. He reported “I’m very disappointed because I gated well all the night. Unfortunately I missed the gate in the final and it proved costly. Anyway Belli, Wooley and Collins deserved the rostrum places”

ROUND 1 MEFO FLATTRACK CHAMPIONSHIP

Michelle Disalvo mixes it with the dutchies in Blijham!
Stichting Baansport Blijham hosted the first round of the International Mefo Sport Flattrack Cup 2011 on their short track, where a good crowd was treated to plenty fierce battles between the cup regulars and the local experts.
Former European Short Track Champion Sytze Hilleger was fast from the get go while American Flat Track star Michelle Disalvo needed a couple of heats to get used to the dirt track again after she had been supermoto and road racing the last years. German number one Stefan Gatzenmeier was challenging hard, and leading a heat when he went down hard over one of the bumps. It was another Dutch grass track ace Johan Berndt who took advantage of the inline restart winning the heat.
The grand final saw Hilleger, Disalvo and Berndt on the front row, joined by cup regular Mick Jansen.
Hilleger and Disalvo were battling for the lead throughout the final, constantly being challenged by Berndt, but Hilleger held on and brought home his first flat track win in a lot of years, making him grin from ear to ear throughout the ceremony! Gatzenmeier had to start from the third row with a sore right wrist. He progressed through the field to battle it with the Jansen brothers, and moved momentarily into 4th position, but the 15 lap final proved to painful on his wrist and he had to settle for 5th, still scoring valuable championship points. New comer Stefan Claussen jumped into the deep end with his beautiful homemade hybrid, consisting of a modern yamaha motor in a modified 70s KTM enduro frame. He showed strong performances and we hope to see more of him in the next races.
Round 1, Blijham (NL), Expert results:
1. #2 Sytze Hilleger, Ferwert(NL), KTM
2. #97 Michelle Disalvo, Modesto (USA), Suzuki

More great picks from Oxford on Tim Coles Facebook and also Steve Baldock Website.

Adian Collins continued with his winning ways from 2010 by winning round 1 of the 2011 Pozzani Grand National UK. Championship at Oxford Stadium. Collins who is riding for the second season on board an HM Plant Honda in the championship, had to be on top form for round 1 and after his heat races not all had gone his own way, as he had been beaton by Tyson Nelson and Tom Woolley so by time his Semi final race came around, he had not to make any mistakes. The race was stopped after two laps with Ade in the lead, when special guest rider Dave Aldana went down in the mid pack and was collected by Geoff Baldock who sustained a shoulder injury. In restart Ade lead the race but was being chased down by the flying Aussie Tyson Nelson who had to work hard to get past David Haith. Ade didn't succumb to the pressure from Tyson and took the win.
In the other Semi Jacopo Monti was leading from the start but being chased hard by Peter Boast and Tom Woolley, Boast went down on lap 4 ,leaving Woolley chasing Monti but Monti was riding superbly and took the win from Woolley and 3rd spot went to 15 year old Tim Neave making his first Grand Final and giving him a National Number.
The Last Chance race saw many good riders battling for the last two transfer spots to the Grand Final, and it was Boastie who worked his way to the front to take the win from Adam Marshall taking second on the X Chris Carr KTM Machine, just losing out were Tim Greig,Ben Baker and Derek Brindley.

The 2011 First Grand Final lined up, Front Row - Collins, Monti, Nelson, Woolley, second row - Neave, Pocklington, Plater Haith, third row - Armstrong, D. Trapmore, Boast, Marshall.
The race was stopped after the first lap when riders got tangled on the first bend, leaving Boastie down in the bottom of the fence. In the restart it was Collins who made the hole shot from Monti, Nelson,Woolley, Haith, Plater. On the second lap round Tyson Nelson got a round Monti. By lap 6 Nelson was pulling in Collins, Monti was 3rd, Woolley 4th and then there was a battle between Haith, Pocklington, Boastie, Trapmore and Neave.
By lap 9 Collins was holding his lead from Tyson by a couple of bike lengths but Monti was reeling them both back in. Collins didn't make any mistakes and went on the take the win, the Aussie star Nelson held on to second from the charging Monti who took 3rd spot.

Tom Woolley Teams up with Pidcock Honda

Two months ago, Tom Woolley, 2 times Junior Champ and second in 2010 UK Championship, was without a ride for 2011. Now, thanks to Pidcock Honda who have suppled Tom with a brand new CRF 450, it looks like 2011 could be a great season for 17 year old Woolley. Chris Pidcock (ex Long Eaton Speedway rider) is very exited about getting involved with shorttrack, he is already planning a 2nd bike to display at the huge Honda showroom in Long Eaton, with a view to possibly being able to offer ready to run shorttrack crfs for sale. Tom is now looking forward to the start of the Grand National Season on what should be a very competitive machine, having been converted to shorttrack spec by Joe Hughes International. Tom would also like to thank all the people who offered to help him when he was looking for a ride in 2011.

Congratulations to Shorttracks number 1 Ade colins and his wife Kate on the birth of their first child, a baby boy called Tai William Collins who was born last week, no doubt the start of a third generation of racing Collins'.

Riders - entry forms for Round 1 of the GNC series are available to download from the regulations page, although all registered riders should have received them by post. Any probs, give us a ring... 01673 878426.

TOM WOOLLEY THE KING OF DUBLIN, IRELAND.

ShorttrackUK brought Flattrack racing to Ireland for the first time at the weekend and it went down a storm. Flattrack had never been seen in Ireland before and 11 riders from Shorttrack UK made the trip to the Royal Dublin Showground, as part of the biggest Motocycle Show in Ireland.

The riders battled it out over three days of racing on a deep sand track and it was Tom Woolley, who took more Grand Final wins than anyone else. He won 6 out of the 8 Finals for Team Suzuki, while guest riding forthem, the only other riders takingwins being his team mates, Tim Neave and Pete Boast.
All the riders put on a great display, riding a very tough track and the Irish people seem to really enjoy watching Flattrack live!

Big thanks Stuart Cosgrave for sponsorship of the Trophies (he owns the largest indoor Karting Centre in Europe - Kylemore Karting and is looking to build a flat track oval in Ireland). Also thanks to Gareth ,Tim ,Nigel,Rob and Buster from Bardney for helping to run the event.

'Crazy kid from Santa Ana Califona' Dave Aldana To Race at Oxford!

Dave Aldana, one of the legends from the greatest motorcycle film 'On any Sunday', has confirmed he will race in UK again. Dave is well known from road racing in the UK with his skelton leathers and the big 'A' on his helmet as his trade mark. He will ride at the first round of the Grand National UK Championship, taking place at Oxford Stadium, Cowley on May 6th Friday evening 7pm.

Dave started out Flattracking in late 60's and early 70's and became a works BSA rider alongside Dick Mann and Jim Rice when the film 'On Any Sunday' was filmed. Dave won many Flattrack races all over the States but never quite managed to grab the Number one plate. By the mid 70's he had become an excellent road racer and was part of the Translatic Team that traveled each year to race against the best UK riders. He was a works rider with Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda and was team mate to many world Champions including Barry Sheene, Eddie Lawson, Gary Nixon, Freddie Spencer and John Kocinski. Dave also rode in world endurance events including the great Bol'dor 24 hour race and won the Suzuki 8 hour race with Mike Baldwin for Honda.

This isn't first time he has raced Flat Track in the UK, in 1979 he came over with Kenny Roberts and raced at a horse trotting track at Holdon, near Exeter, Devon on a 750 Shell Thuet Yamaha. Kenny won the Final and Aldana was with him all the way, until his cut out came out and he was passed by Chippy Moore, who was also on one of the big Yams. Aldana finished the race in third spot by holding the cut out with his left hand, while still drifting around corners for the remaining two laps.
Dave, who is now 62 years young, will land on English soil on May 4th. He will be giving a fascinating talk about his career at a Sideburn evening in Oxford (venue to be confirmed) that evening (visit sideburn for more info) and then the following night he'll be riding a C&J 450 Suzuki, hanging out with the fastest Flat Track racers in the UK at Oxford Speedway Stadium on Friday night.

Mr Steve ' Redmax' Hillary is sponsoring the Thunderbike Championship for the third year in a row. Steve not only rides in the Championship but supplies most of the riders in it with all their Flat Track parts. Click on his logo and check his website out for some cool parts.

Hagon is a new sponsor for 2011 but no stranger to many forms of Motorcycle Racing. Alf Hagon was an excellent Grasstracker and sprint Champion started company but is now run by his son Martin, who also has a fantastic CV in Speedway, Long track and even Sidecar Motorcross! It's great to have them on board.

Arrow Engineering is the Title sponsor of the Junior Shorttrack Championship. Derek Brindly who owns the company is pleased to support the young ones and help grow the youth side of the sport. Derek is National number 25 in the GNC and his son Oliver finished 3rd in last year's Junior Championship.

Tony Brock of Triple A is the man who makes sure we've all got Flattrack Tyres in the UK, and makes sure that Maxxis Support the Championships with Sponsorship and we are very pleased that they are with us again in 2011.

Marshall Kinrade is big flat track fan from the Isle of Man. His support last year paid for a free junior day and I'm pleased that Marshall is kindly supporting us again in 2011. This year that support will go towards helping to get some up and coming young riders to the USA, for the trip of a lifetime to race with the best AMA riders.

Are again running the 'Rider of the Day' awards at the Shorttrackuk Championship. Many riders over last two seasons have won a Helmet thanks to Glyns support.
